Part of James issue is Doucoure is supposed to be his supply and he's just not quite good enough at that against decent midfields.

Allan as the ball winner, Doucoure as the carrier and someone as a bit of a playmaker with some general technical ability would work as a midfield imo. Only problem is Gomes can’t play that role with any aptitude often enough and neither can Sigurdsson. Than means Allan and Doucoure who are good at what they do but limited solely to just that have to start adjusting their play and move to unfamiliar places to fill in at jobs they’re not very good at.

Wouldn't blame Douc. It's just hard to cover so much of the field constantly when your left winger ain't much defensively, right one even less, and on top of it all you got Siggy on mid who doesn't do jack but wait for a set piece play to contribute to the game.

Hames would be ideal in this role, if we could get someone on the right like Richy does on the left

I just worry that James would have to play slightly too far back from what suits him and that the defensive game for the position that would really just have to be positional and occupying space would be too much for him.

The idea of Gomes is great because he is that player but unfortunately he only seems to show up a handful of times a season

Unlike Gylfi he actually showed he can play his role, 3 games ago you were drooling over him. Both him and Allan can't run and cover consistently for 3 people infront and 2 behind the whole game.

It worked with Richy in team cause of his immense work rate. It even worked with Gomes cause he may not do much, but even his workrate is greater than Gylfi's.

he had that one good season whereby he scored 8 goals. Then, like Big Iceland, we had the YouTube vids of him being the next Viera.
