A Serious Summer of Shopping

The problem is not going to be indentifing targets. Everyone knows WHAT we need. And the club, the fans, the media, all have their ideas of WHO we need. The big problem is getting the targets to come to Everton. It seems our targets are everybody's targets.

We've got Moshiri (big money), we've got Koeman (big name), hopefully that will be enough to attract some players (big talent).

Best to start accepting that won't happen though as it's simply not realistic. As much as I may agree with it a bit.

As much cash as we allegedly have, it's the persuading players that they actually want to play for Everton that's the issue I fear.

But we shall see.
Hence the 'long term project' we are being told. Difficult for us to be patient though.

Can't think of the last time I heard of a team successfully purchasing and then integrating 6+ new first team players, which is what we need.

I can see us getting 4 at most. One more in January, 3 more next summer.

Chelsea have regularly bought in 3 new starters - in about 3-4 separate seasons including this current one.

When Mourinho first took over (first time) - they brought in Drogba, Carvalho, Robben, Cech, Ferreira, Tiago, Kezman that summer who all where either first team starters or who played more than 25 games in the league for them - so thats 7 players. they also brought in a couple more who played enough games to factor as well that season.

City similar tend to bring in 2-3 per seaosn starters, think this year they brought in 5, and in 10/11 they brought in about 6/7 that summer - Dzeko, Yaya Toure, Balotelli, Silva, Kolarov, Milner, Boeteng, year before that they brought in about 6 as well

It can be done

moshri has to apply for a bank loan first. I doubt his beano comic collection will be worth the millions we need

We dont need trillions of pounds, we need a good scouting system and we need to take a gamble on a few promising players! It is interesting that many of the players being coveted on here cost relatively little money (Keane, McGuire, Pickford, Butland etc. Even VVD when he went to Celtic) we only need one or two really big statements in my opinion, the rest could be done by being brave with these guys and taking a punt on them!

add Troy Deeney to that list

Pickford (£17m), Keane (£20m), Gylfi (£27m) Rooney (??), Ghezzal (free), Sandro (£5m).

That's 6 players in for about £69m.

We look to offload Stekelenberg (free), Cleverly (£8m), McGeady (£2.5m), Niasse (£5-10m), Delboy (£10m), Kone (free), Valencia (loan), McCarthy (£20m).

That's 8 players out for about £40m approx. That's before we even look into Barkley and Romelu.
For me I think its important we get Ross signed, not just for his talent, but to avoid having to then go and replace him too, we will be looking at least 7 players in, 9 players out. Still we haven't even got to Lukaku !!!

If Romelu does go then its the original £69m spent, plus another £50-75m from Romelu, at least 10 players out, minimum 8-10 players in.

Either way its going to be a huge summer, not just in terms of number of bodies but making sure we don't overspend. This Is why I agree with Koeman regarding ross and rom, make a decision early to give all parties a chance of sorting the squad out.

Take McGuire off that list please
His mere name hurts my head

The players nailed on to start next season in August from the current lot are IMO
Baines
Holgate (unless another right back is brought in but I don't really see the point and would much rather see Kenny given a chance)
Davies
Scheniderlin
Gana
Lukaku (if he stays)

The rest is completely up for grabs for new signings, or from what we currently have and depending on what formation Koeman wishes to play, should that be 3 at the back or 4-3-3.

Sounds like Sandro is a done deal from varied sources, so that is one of the attacking places gone if he impresses pre-season.

Game (and the market) has changed a lot in 13 years. No FFP then, either.
