Hello to you all. An American here, more specifically a Tennessean, who is going all in for Everton.

Two quick things - my uncle is from Liverpool who spent many a Saturday at the Grand Old Lady, so liking Everton seemed a naturally fit for me, a Yank who is growing more and more obsessed with Euro club futbol. And, as fate would have it, my undying passion is Tennessee Vols college football, and the similarities between the Vols and Everton are frankly too lengthy to enumerate. I will say the most glaring shared trait is talent-deficit; the Vols have no recruiting base to compete with Florida and Alabama (not that yall care) and Everton is obviously hamstrung by finances as compared to teams owned by oil moguls and Russian mobsters.

Which leads to my thoughts on my brief and inexperienced career of being a Toffee - it has seemed painfully clear to me that while we are a scrappy and determined team at times, especially in the back, we simply do not have the elite and creative play up front to keep up with the top table teams. Now this is obviously the most basic observation an Everton fan could make - but bear with me, I'll learn quickly.

So now questions: (1) I see a lot of Moyes hate, and that is simply always a byproduct of struggling. Would a more aggressive manager be able to make this team more competitive (say top 5 in the table), or does our current squad lack the playmakers to make this happen? (2) Is an ownership change to the crazy-spending foreign companies the only thing that can make this a top-table club, as obviously the support, history and class are in place?

Frankly, living here, I am sick to death of Americans suddenly loving United (who are the New York Yankees of the EPL and the easiest team to bandwagon) and City (who are the Dallas Mavericks of the EPL - spend, spend, spend).

Thanks guys, and perhaps I'll make it across the pond one day.

Don't think we have a bad team at all tbh. World Cup finalist can't get the team most weeks, Fellaini, Rodwell, Barkley, Saha on his day is top class, England's best left back (now ffs I don't care) a decent keeper, 3 decent centre backs, The Roystonator.

We're just being Ebepton and ****ing stuff up.

Welcome bro..

Moyes, has deserved some recent criticism... That said, I can't think of a better manager for us except maybe Ian Holloway

*Put on Armor*

I would hate, HATE to become like Citeh if we get taken over.. I would like someone to come in and maybe refurbish Goodison and dump money into our youth setup while still able to bring in a few top professionals/ players.

I didn't mean to suggest Everton is bad at all. I am simply noting the continuing separation from the top table teams.

Quite literally, yes. I get the same question when walking out of Neyland Stadium for every game after getting trashed by better teams. I think there's something to gritty loyalty and I will talk more ****e than an American has any right to if/when Everton is in top form.

You a masochist or what?

Yes...until football's bubble bursts...which we've been prophesying for the last 15 years.

Welcome to the site lad

I moved to NYC about 2 and a half years ago... I support the Mets - the Everton of baseball haha

Welcome to G.OT. I think most Evertonians are frustrated with the goings on at Goodison, but we will stand proud and always follow our great club, with chests puffed out and pizza in hand (without pineapple of course)

Don't get me wrong. I'll support EFC no matter what, but to volunteer? After getting to the age of responsibility?

Moyes hate reminds me a lot of Fulmer hate - change perhaps needed, perhaps warranted, not sure it's all Moyes/Fulmer. A decade seems a long time when things get rough.

Get Fulmer in!
Great post...got to meet some Vols while I was at the U of South Carolina: some of the nicest folks that came through Columbia

Welcome mate.

I seen the bright lights of Memphis and the commodore hotel
And underneath a street light, I met a southern belle,
well she took me to the river, where she cast a spell,
And in that southern moonlight, she sang a song so well

If you'll be my Dixie chicken, I can be your Tenessee lamb
And we can walk together down in Dixie land
