Neiler

Player Valuation: £100m
Well with little activity on the tranfer fornt, the question i have asked myself is why?

Im not one for screaming for the manager/chairmans head and panicing because we havnt signed anyone. I think waiting for tranfers is an art of paitence and one i hope i have learned as i have gotten older (kind of). That said its hard not to become frustrated, praticularly with Journos coming up with sensational links to give us all the footballing equivelent of a stiffy.

Trying to analyse the clubs strategy is a personal opinion i know! But for my two cents here goes: For me the club are playig a waiting game, it appears their top targets all play for championship clubs i.e. Jags, Nugent, Koumas etc. The uniuqe thing about this situation is that the three i named above are all reported to favour a move to Everton. This gives us considerable leverage in terms approaching and negotiating in terms of price.

Why have we not signed anybody? Simple answer is the club is waiting to get the best price. Those palyers i listed above are the most salable assests at their respective clubs. Their clubs are hoping to cash in on them for the largest pot possible to fund their promotion drive being that gettinng into the prem will be worth 50 mill. The intresting thing about it is that those clubs cant actually fund their own signings or replacements for departing stars, untill big deals are agreed. Therefore as time ticks by they will be willing to drop their prices as preseason and the actual season draws ever closer. Despite all their shaping and intentions of hard bargaining, once they begin to miss on their own targets it will be panic stations.

But Sund/Wet Ham are in for Nugent, Villa for Koumas, And Bolton/Wigan for Jags, i hear you say. True but the club seem pretty sure that those players have their hearts set on Goodison and perhaps Everton have told them to sit tight. European football must also come into the equation with England caps to be had next summer. I can hear Moyes negotiating personal terms "Remeber were A.J. and Lescott were this time last year son".

A dangerous game certainly we could end up with all of them and perhaps a few i havn't mentioned or it could all go pearshaped and we could end up with David Thompson on a free.

Certainly though its exciting, the club is playing Russian roulette I.M.O. with championship clubs but i guess the question is who will win?

Well the transfer merry go round could well start with the sale of Bent to Spurs, defoe then on to Mancs, Saha on to whoever and so on and so on. To be honest no players that we have really been linked with have gone, its all a bit still at the moment.

I dont think its just coincidence that a lot of players contracts run to the end of June and therefore bosmans and out of contracts will not happen until after this date.

We are playing a waiting game but generally we dont do any business until July at the earliest, if you have a look I believe most of the transfers under Moyes take place in August.

I do believe we will have a flurry of transfers in a short space of time, we as a football club and as a business need to push on from what we acheived last year and the only way we can maintain this is to invest in the players as many are doing around us- it will happen just a case of when.

It is worrying with the money that is flying around though- especially with teams that i deem as direct competition to us-

MIDDLESBROUGH

Ins: Tuncay Sanli (Fenerbahce, free), Jeremie Aliadiere (Arsenal, £2m), Jonathan Woodgate (Real Madrid, £7m

NEWCASTLE UNITED

Ins: Mark Viduka (Middlesbrough, free), Joey Barton (Man City, £5.8m).

PORTSMOUTH

Ins: Sulley Muntari (Udinese, £7m), Sylvain Distin (Manchester City, free), Hermann Hreidarsson (Charlton, free).

TOTTENHAM HOTSPUR

Ins: Gareth Bale (Southampton, £5m).

WEST HAM UNITED

Ins: Scott Parker (Newcastle, £7m).

I believe we will have one BIG signing and a couple 3m-4m, watch this space I suppose!

I think you're right Neiler. The only think I disagree with is that you say
perhaps Everton have told them to sit tight.
How would we be able to talk to a player without having agreed a price with their club? The tab-up is not an option with the intense focus on shady dealing, so the players basically have to believe it when the media say that we want Jagielka, Koumas and Nugent.

Its risky, but i agree that we are trying to wait some of them out.

especially with preston over nugent, where i think he will tell preston he only wants to move to us, and if we cant agree a fee, he will wait out his remaining 12 months and they will lose out

imho i believe moyes knows who he wants, but has learnt lessons from past experience and is keeping his cards close to hi chest (sisoko anyone)

all this doing nothing is worrying, but better than alternative:dodgy:

I honestly think that things are happening behind the scenes that we don't know of, this is like EFC of old. Rest assured that when DM goes after his man he'll get who he wants, the market itself is very flat at the moment. We have not helped ourselves on here by giving credence to every half baked rumour doing the rounds, I blame Robert Jarvis:lol:

its all chico's fault

the problem is that with chico in town, none of our targets wants to risk losing his wag.

roll on saturday when he goes home

a part of the equation is as always the transfer merry-go-round.

players will leave some prem clubs to go to others, as it is city have lost two of their top performers, im expecting moderate clear outs at pompey and west ham, spurs cant keep all their midfielders (and i hear chimbonda is spain bound).

a point was made recently that we have to spend to keep up with prem level, its my opinion that some clubs need to spend to get on par with us, then spend again to overtake us.

i wonder how many season ticket renewals the club got on its 'reduced price offer' in may? did that money go to appease the bank or is it sat earning a little interest whilst moyes outlines his spending plan.

Like monty said, it's far better to conduct dealings in private rather than in a public bidding war through the papers. I'm sure Moyes knows what he's doing and will get the job done to the best of his ability.

I was getting impatient a couple of weeks back, but then, Moyes is on holiday, so probably only expect things to start hotting up when he returns.:D

If it doesn't, then I'm going to stomp around impatiently!

I'm with Mick on this one, i think moyes is going to surprise us all with at least one major signing, in Moyes we trust.

I think Sissoko was a smokescreen to keep attention off of Arteta, who the [Poor language removed] where rumoured to be interested in.

I think we will see a big signing that isn't in the papers until it happens.

If you're right it was a master stroke re: Sissoko.

Very few big signings are made without advance press leaks. Even with our 3 acquisitions last summer, only the Howard loan flew in under the radar (probably because it was a pre-arranged loan); the AJ and Lescott signings were hardly surprises.

I suspect we'll tie up Jagielka soon, but if we do sign any big names there will at least be some speculation before it actually happens.

It appears that medicals are the point at which confirmation is made in our transfers, im not sure where they are always held or who leaks it.

Blame me for what, I merely provided the thread for people to air their views and debate all matters Everton and players. The thread attracted over 3600 posts which is surely a record. Behave Monty or I shall have to propose the removal of your old fart status and blue parking badge.!!
