A 5year Plan

As it has done for the past decade, our fate really rests on us being able to *insert 'punch above our weight' cliche here* and snatch a CL place (and actually get to the group stage). Then, supposing the extra circa £20m revenue won't be swallowed whole, somehow find three world class bargains that will allow us to do it again the following season, and so on. '05 and '09 were big opportunities we didn't quite grasp, which is terribly frustrating.

As it seems pointless to hope for a new owner, I'd say this season's performance will dictate the next five years. If we somehow finished fourth and got through the qualification round of the CL, we'd likely keep our squad together and be able to add to it. If we don't, it looks probable that Fellaini will be gone and we'll spend another summer rebuilding in order to finish seventh.

We have to finish 3/4 for at least 3-4years on the trot and qualify for the group stages before we would start to see any significant benefit from the CL revenue in my opinion. On top of that the teams in and around us continue to splurge bucket loads of cash too displace us, it's a hard ask but not impossible.

Cups however are winnable now if we bother to go for it. The way I see it is a successful cup run can only improve morale even further and maybe give the players the belief they can start challenging the 'bigger' clubs.

UEFA certainly do seem to care more about the elite teams and the money they generate and do go out of their way to make sure the top teams have the best chance of winning the CL and even when they fail in the CL group stages they give the bigger teams a shot at winning the Europa and it's wrong.

Back to KO competition in Europa and and when the CL teams are out they are out.

Would not be suprised if UEFA pretty much said Never Again when the final was Porto/Monaco. Hence the quick red cards for unfashionable teams + the lack of punishment for diving sh$#heads like Eduardo.

Everton wins Champions League in 2015, meanwhile league play suffers and we are around mid-table all season. So midseason rules are changed saying that you must finish 5th to have the opportunity to defend your title because of the unfairness of a 4th place chelsea getting the shaft.

We are pretty much an established top half of the table team and we are consistently doing that and so for a club that simply cannot compete in the transfer market with the funds like the rest of the sides around us, im happy with that. We have to be realistic......

The only major thing that i want to see change in the very near future is the replacement of Kenwrong !! This tit needs to go asap

The stadium situation must be resolved. Without that, any plan, 5 days or 5 years, is built in unsecured foundations.

I want to know what fans realistically want from Everton FC over say the next 5years?

In your mind what would be progress? What would you be happy with and where do you think we should be aiming for?

The reason I ask is all the fans who simply aren't interested in winning Cups anymore. Fans who think the league Cup and Europa League are not worth our time and effort and finishing 4th is the golden chalice.

Let's be honest 5 seasons isn't a long time ahead in football but on the other hand a lot can change also.

For me getting 4th might, just might see us getting into the CL proper but can you seriously believe that we have any chance in hell of winning the thing without a Sheik taking over in the next 10 years never mind 5.

For me I would be happy if we are constantly closing the gap on the sky 6 breaking into it every season and in 5 years from now be looked at as a club that is a force to be reckoned with.

I want to win the league but it's highly improbable at the moment. Never say never though as who knows what's around the corner. If the league is unattainable then I want the next best thing Silverware in our trophy cabinet something to be proud about again.

I couldn't care less if it's the League cup, FA cup or Europa league as these are all Cups that our club is more than capable of challenging for.

Other than a super rich guy taking over these are my realistic expectations for Everton in the next 5 years, beyond that who knows. Man Utd went 26 years without a League title but then got a lucky break as our European ban finished and the Sky money started rolling in.

Who is to say Everton can't hit the heights again...I can dream can't I and I do.

This smells all Communist and the like... 5 Year Plans....

A bit of investment, some desire from the board to move forward.

The reality is that the best we can really hope for is a cup. I know people aren't satisfied with finishing 7th every season (neither am I), and finishing in 6th or 5th isn't really that much of an improvement either when you consider the financial rewards a 4th place finish provides.

Can you really see one of Chelsea, Man U, Man City or Arsenal falling out of the top 4 though? If you look at that group of teams, most would say that Arsenal are the weakest, but when you look at where they are and where we are you realise that a 4th place finish is a very difficult achievement for us. Arsenal made something daft like £35m profit after tax, that's with paying off a new 60,000 state of the art stadium, and I'd argue that they're pulling their finger out a bit now and finally signing some top players again who can take them back up to the top of the league perhaps.

Without considerable investment the best we can hope for is 5th place, and maybe a trophy or two. Which is something I'd be fairly happy with.

The Everton board of directors' five year plan....

Keeping our players not selling our best to United and Arsenal. The only way to do that is to challenge for fourth place - then get the money from the championship to enable us to get better players and build a youth system like Arsenal. With money and more players we could then make challenges on the FA cup and every other silverware available.

First goal is keeping our players - which why we need 4th place and championship.

Dude in many threads about the league cup and europa league i have seen fans write that they are not arsed because they are mickey mouse cups or whatever. it wasn't a poor generalization of peoples opinions at all it was merely a statement of what i have read.

the only person on a wind up is you my friend.

I guarantee that's out of context. If you simply asked who want's a cup with the options
Would love one
Not bothered
No one not taking the mick would say not bothered.
I havn't seen a single post in any thread where people have said its a mickey mouse cup that they don't want to win without explaining further.
Normally with it being regarding being better off not in it so we can concentrate our small squad on something else.
Why would any fan not want to win something ffs, call me on the wind up all you like but I doubt anyone given the choice wouldn't want us to win something and that you think that's the case is a bit odd.

Then work your way diligently through that thread: http://www.grandoldteam.com/forum/t...-in-disguise?highlight=it's+blessing+disguise

I've got through 2 pages and apart from one banned user (scumbag) nigh on everyone else seemed more than bothered about it.

Edit: Just read this from Royal:
It's nowhere near a blessing but I am far from arsed.

Not exactly saying he's not bothered about a cup but surprising enough for me to admit I am mistaken and apologise to TBN as there is at least one of those fans he suggested which ismore than I expected.
Royal are you arsed if we win a trophy at all or just that one if you happen to be reading?

a lot of people have said here they would take top 4 over winning a trophy inc. europa league. i know it's not them saying they're not bothered but it can be interpreted that way.

That's why I advised 'diligence'.
