A 5year Plan

This is more or less what I think is achievable, 2 or 3 cups in the next 5years would be a great bonus for the fans finishing 4th guarantees nothing.

It doesn't, but lets be honest, if the last 15yrs have taught us anything it's how to be pragmatic. It's why people put 4th before a cup. When you've been as close to the brink as we obviously have your mindset changes.

When people talk about "we can beat anyone on our day" that translates to me as a squad thats capable of winning cups. If this team was playing any of the top 4 tomorrow I'd be confident that the players on the pitch are good enough to win. Only the manager has any doubts hanging over him IMO, which I why I said we need to develop the hunger to win, not to think we done well just to get here.

For this season we need to go on a good FA cup run and finish at the lowest 6th for this season to be regarded even remotely successful. Hopefully this will have us qualify for Europe next season and maybe help us keep our best players, i.e. Baines, Fellaini and possibly others. As for next season onwards we need to consistently finish in the top 6 and challenge for higher with a domestic cup or 2 thrown in on the way.

Considering our current team set up and with new names floating around (Vadis etc) I don't see why this isn't realistic.

More than a realistic target. Do you think Davey has it in him to pull a cup win off though or will his teams always be known as nearly men? Hopefully our our players will break the duck of failing at the final hurdle soon.

I would be made up if we won the FA Cup and finished 4th.

I think many people would be happy with that. Getting 4th is one thing but it's the 2/3 season that precede that which are important. If you don't progress it's all for nothing.

Kenwright out of Everton FC. Because we can forget about any league progress to CL placings or winning a cup of any description while he's here. Thirteen years of mediocrity and false dawns tells you that only that feller being prised out of the club can mean anything of significance happening. Five year plans with him here means five years of fighting to be 'best of the rest'. That's not good enough by a long chalk.

Like I said in the post above has Dave got it in him to create a winning mentality a team with a superiority complex which them idiots across the park have got. They believe they have a sense of entitlement to win things and i want our club to have this belief on a regular basis.

We should be challenging for cups every year not getting knocked out by lower league teams. It's not once or twice either it happens too often for my liking.

As soon as we break that mould I honestly believe as a club we will take the next step.

We know we can't compete on a level playing field and i didn't really want to grind on about Kenwright in this thread but of course you have a valid point, money talks in the modern game we know this.

However is a cup win really unattainable even with the current circumstances? The carrot has been dangled in front of Dave and his teams and they bottled it, BK can't take the blame solely for that.

Getting 4th at least once and winning a cup. If I had to choose it would be the cup as I'm convinced that UEFA will find a way to keep us out of europe even if we finish 4th. What happened to Spurs was ridiculous. Unlimited resources and finishing 5th, Chelsea was pathetic last year. Every single year UEFA does something that gives all the advantages to the well moneyed clubs and yet won't even bother giving a spot to the Europa league champion. First it was putting Liverpool in, next its kicking out the 4th place team altogether.

Finishing above Liverpool at least 3-4 of the next 5. Averaging 4 pts off them next 5 years.

Only chance of ever finishing higher than 4th is fiscal sanity rules so even competing for a league title is out of the question unless we get a City style sheik.

Agree 100% Mentality is everything in sport. For me only the question marks hang around the manager. We seen when Royle was in charge what can happen with a manager who believes. Can you imagine the difference between his and Moyes derby teamtalks?

If Moyes finally feels like he's got the players to do the business his own mindset may change. I'm not sure he'll ever develop the last bit, the killer instinct, that all the best have but I'm hopeful.

UEFA certainly do seem to care more about the elite teams and the money they generate and do go out of their way to make sure the top teams have the best chance of winning the CL and even when they fail in the CL group stages they give the bigger teams a shot at winning the Europa and it's wrong.

Back to KO competition in Europa and and when the CL teams are out they are out.

I hope so. We've only reached one final, where we were outclassed by the better team and last season I think we would have reached another final if Drenthe wasn't off his head and got himself dropped. Obviously we'll never know but our main problem in the semi last season was a lack of spark. With this team I don't see why we can't challenge for a cup and once Moyes wins one once, hopefully he'll pick up the knack of doing it again.

This year could be pivotal.

If we can finish well, get a European spot and somehow keep Felliani. I think we will have a platform to push on and maybe challenge for Champions Leauge

Do you not read the other threads pal? There are many fans who couldn't care less about the League cup or Europa league, go and have a read in stead of calling me a wum dude.

It was a genuiine question.. Were you winding us up or genuinely thinking people don't care about cups. Clearly you are feeling people genuinely don't wnat them.

If this was the FA cup or 4th spot thread you are referring to then that is a very poor generalisation of peoples opinions there.
People were saying 4th so they could get the income from 4th and CL and build a squad capable of several cups instead of just one. No one is dissinterested in winnning silverware, some would just rather do it more than once before dissapearing back into the abyss.

For me be it 1 year, 5 years or 10 years.. I want a better team... Anything that wins and any position improvements that gets us brings us glory or money to improve and have a chance at better the following season until we win a cup... then another.. or even the league.
5 Years I want us to be better than we are now.

Dude in many threads about the league cup and europa league i have seen fans write that they are not arsed because they are mickey mouse cups or whatever. it wasn't a poor generalization of peoples opinions at all it was merely a statement of what i have read.

the only person on a wind up is you my friend.

It's hard to argue with that; he hasn't been bold enough when it mattered, it's true. However, if Moyes had enough money to buy a few more top quality players in key positions I think he may have turned a few SF appearances into final appearances, and final appearances into cup wins.

As it has done for the past decade, our fate really rests on us being able to *insert 'punch above our weight' cliche here* and snatch a CL place (and actually get to the group stage). Then, supposing the extra circa £20m revenue won't be swallowed whole, somehow find three world class bargains that will allow us to do it again the following season, and so on. '05 and '09 were big opportunities we didn't quite grasp, which is terribly frustrating.

As it seems pointless to hope for a new owner, I'd say this season's performance will dictate the next five years. If we somehow finished fourth and got through the qualification round of the CL, we'd likely keep our squad together and be able to add to it. If we don't, it looks probable that Fellaini will be gone and we'll spend another summer rebuilding in order to finish seventh.
