I didn't disagree with any of that, and I don't.

But why can't we expect a bit more from him, still? Good managers strive to improve, and you don't improve with a "he does well like, so let's just settle for that" attitude.

FFS the man is on £65K a year. We should have expectations for him, not sympathy.

Agree totally, we should have expectations of all the staff/players, and we should expect to see improvements, and it is not a question of settling for "just that". BUT, with the exception of the barcodes last season, (and lets wait and see on them next year), we finished top of our peer group. We started to play some good stuff, by and large the signings bought in were good, or very good TBH, so credit where credit is due. Of course I want a squillion pounds to spunk on players, and a 50000 seater stadium, but it aint going to happen soon. The times they have a changed, I am afraid.

I have a theory. If we started seasons how we finish, and ended them how we start, then people wouldn't be quite so forgiving.

That, TBF, is a very good point; the scenario would be top at christmas, finish 7th?

Footie, eh, dont you love it!

Off to BB with Mrs R, so peace out mate. x

I think you've exaggerated a bit there mate.

I want more from Moyes than he's given in the past few years, but that doesn't mean I expect us to be competing for the title. Or even the CL.

The lack of money is crippling and criminal, but it's not one or the other. It can be both. Starting seasons badly for 3 or 4 seasons on the trot, sh*tting out of derbies and big cup games, playing atrocious football when we have players to do better.

Moyes has made mistakes. Not as many as the board, not even close, but he's still made them. And often doesn't learn from them. We can expect more from him without expecting the world.

He can cut out all the "knife to a gunfight" crap, realise that games of football are played by footballers not price tags and send out a team to win every match with the belief they can win regardless of who they are playing.

We've finished above teams who spent more money than us before and we'll do it again so we can compete.

Its not easy, far from it but you at least try instead of throwing in the towel before the first whistle is blown.

...
You could argue 7th now is better than a 7th then (there is far more competition for the spaces with teams like Chelsea and the RS, who were in the top four years back, outside of it this year) but there are lots of people who will make snide 7th place trophy comments so best left alone.

Definately, and on top of this the make-up of the squad is better, ave age lower, bright youth propsects etc...

This. Both are to blame for different elements. Moyes for some of the team's long term performance, the board for making his job harder than it should have to be and generally stifling the club.

yes they would/were............... back in 04 we were 2nd at christmas or der-abouts and we had to show virtually relegation form to end up coming 4th, weird old season that one- sold rooney got beckford and coulda won the league (sort of)

Beckford only came and went last season mate.

It always comes down to the lack of cash for me. Therefore I think he's done a really good job under the circumstances. And yet...
His aforementioned bottling in most derbies; his needless tactical negativity on too many occasions; his deflating 'realist' statements before certain games when it would be better to show some front regardless- without this stuff, we could've done even better despite the money situation.

You know how much the derbies' give out as prizes? Nothing. Screw the derbies, it's about league position for money, for profile and for attracting players.

You've really grasped what it means to be an Evertonian. Well done.

Seriously some people need to get a grip. 20mill worth of talent taken out of the squad and we still finished the same as the season before. Randy Learner did something similar and nearly got relagated, while McCleish got shafted.

People are still having a go - madness!

Sure, but before Donovan, Pienaar and Jelavic came we where miles off that. How much are they all worth in total? It's not as if this year followed the same pattern as the last 3/4 years. Oh wait...
