No one is ignorant enough to look past what was accomplished before '95, but while we can be proud, the data is outdated and will not compute because the game you are trying to apply it too is too heavily influenced by money and other intangibles like SKY that did not have sway on matters then. The ground has shifted and therefore you must change the way you fight or run the risk of being run over. Yes, we used to win stuff, but the dynamic was different than it is now. The paradigm has shifted, and so our expectations have got to shift as well, or we are just simply delusional like the knob heads across the park.

Blimey, a bit of common sense. Wont last though.......

Some context. In my lifetime, 3 managers have won something for Eberton. One of those, (Big Joe & the FAC) could be considered a touch fortunate, Catt was in control of probably the richest club in England, and HK, was, of course, ace.

So, in 47 seasons, we have won, I think, 7 things, (7th place trophy being ignored for now,), and 6 of those were in 5 seasons, so we have 1 FAC in the remaining 42 seasons.

In that context, and taking into account your points re Sky etc etc, what, exactly, do some jokers really expect?

That's a strawman. It's the cups Moyes is attacked on.

That's equally as ridiculous, given that we weren't exactly winning cups a plenty in the decade before Moyes, were we?
He doesn't prioritise the league cup. He generally does prioritise the FA Cup (with the exception of a few notable occasions).
He can be criticised for some of his selections - I've criticised him many times, as recently as the Leeds game.

I certainly wouldn't get rid of him over it though. He's clearly been and still is a massive achiever for the club.

One day, in this country, someone will come - a man of courage and bravery who won't manage just to protect his position like this managerial generation.

He will take a team of unknowns, cast offs and youngsters and turn them into champions.

In all honesty I don't really care what club it is as long as it's not the strange people across the park, to break this monied monopoly will be the greatest gift to fans brought up on Utd, Chelsea and now City.

I pray when Moyes goes it happens here.

Think you're still living in the 80's mate. When is the last time this actually happened? And to be honest the only manager who looks close to doing this at the moment is Moyes.

You were doing well untill you called people jokers. It doesn't have to be as divisive an issue as it is. I think Moyes' record deserves a degree of respect myself but understand that people don't like the term "overachieving". I think we are about where we should be but that it's a difficult job to keep us there.

Excellent post this really.

In this country? The top 4 in the premier league is a bit harder to crack than in france. It took Man City about 500 million to win the league, I just don't think it's realistic to expect a manager do it with next to nothing.

So if we're ignoring foriegn leagues and we're ignoring anything more than twenty years ago, there's not exactly a huge sample to look at is there?

My dad's always telling me that during the 80s the media always said that a london club could never win the league because of all the derbies and then they did and everyone shut up. It's the same about a poor club these days.
