Mate, we were dog ****e throughout the 90's and you know it. Bar that 18 month spell in the mid 90's we were utter poo !

As a fan and you would be a ****ing liar if you said you didn't...... i always breathed and slept easier when we reached 40 points in the league. I can guarantee that 40 points was the aim every single year in that decade and even the early years of the new millenium from those within our club too. Anything more was a bonus !

Is it that way now ? No chance.......

Well as long as YOU can guarantee it that's obviously the top and bottom of it.

The idea others saw it as one of our sh1t times (we've had a few y'know) with 2 seasons when we actually went down to the wire but we still tried to win stuff (and did) is academic then.

You do know this club wasn't created post 1995 don't you? If so you'll realise we used to compete and win stuff. Moyes bringing stability after the gift of Rooney doesn't elevate him to God like status in all Evertonians minds you know.

Howard Kendal, Joe Royle on the other hand ......

You serious ? Having been given the same funds and how mega rich individuals are ruining the game now ?

I think a better manager could have won a cup with the squad Moyea assembled. He's excellent in the transfer market but less good at setting up a winning team in the crunch.

If we assume that Wenger and Ferguson could assemble a similar squad on the budget, and I don't think that's unreasonable, I think they'd have won a cup at some point.

Royle won a cup with a much worse team and I don't think he was as good a manger as the two you mentioned.

What you denying it? Its a fact. We have come very close. Less than a game away from a trophy with a team which I think is inferior to what we have now, Arteta and Jagielka were integral to that team and both were injured, he did well to get there, I think he can do it again. A little luck and he can win us a cup which was the point.

Jose Mourinho
Why does any one metion Mourinho or the board digging deep to get him?????We would have to lend about 150 million to get him to come to Everton, and if it didn't work we would end up going out of business. If we are going to have real debates keep it sensible.
The answer is also no one could have done a better job on Evertons resources,in my opinion.

Is it luck that we always choak at the big cup games, though or a mentality?

No one is ignorant enough to look past what was accomplished before '95, but while we can be proud, the data is outdated and will not compute because the game you are trying to apply it too is too heavily influenced by money and other intangibles like SKY that did not have sway on matters then. The ground has shifted and therefore you must change the way you fight or run the risk of being run over. Yes, we used to win stuff, but the dynamic was different than it is now. The paradigm has shifted, and so our expectations have got to shift as well, or we are just simply delusional like the knob heads across the park.

I know mate, it just sounded funny...we were within touching distance...one goal up with 80 minutes left against the future European Champions.

No he's not saying we should settle, he's saying we should be grateful things are better, and they are! Boss stats there to back it up. Not quite sure why you are so wound up. Also, pineapple on pizza: Good idea or bad idea?

Pineapple is not only sweet and flavoursome but full of nutrition - bang it on baby.

I don't think anyone wil argue that Moyes is a better manager than Mike Walker and Walter Smith, but is that really all we want?

As my post illustrated above, during the time period Moyes has managed us, he has led us to more sustained and consistent top 10 finishes than anyone in the decade before him, and that includes Royle and Kendall II as well. Royle won us an FA Cup and had a good 95/96 season, but Royle was having a total nightmare in 96/97 - out of the league cup in the 2nd round to York City over 2 legs, out of the FA Cup in the 4th round to Bradford (when they were in the bottom 3 of the Championship at the time), and 13th in the league when he was sacked.

Moyes has done what he has done in an ever changing league, where Everton are much poorer financially now than they were 10-15 years ago, and where the spending gap between the CL clubs and Everton is now greater than ever. Realistically, we are doing as well now under Moyes, as we ever will do under anyone, with the current financial restrictions hampering the club. And I don't just mean spending power on players fees and wages, I mean revenue generators, tv money, commercial & marketing money, etc.

We'd all love Everton to win the league, but blaming Moyes for not being able to is quite frankly laughable and ridiculously unrealistic.

Mike Walker was very under rated, never given a proper chance

He was; he was woefully out of his depth. In his first 5 months in 93/94 (January to May), he was very, very lucky to survive relegation on the final day. The Wimbledon game was a once in a lifetime type game, a miraculous outcome, especially after going 2-0 down. People forget - that Wimbledon game was only our 2nd win in the last 11 games of that season. Our form for the last 2-3 months of that season was atrocious.

The first 3 months of the 94/95 season under Walker were an unmitigated disaster; when Walker was sacked, we were rock bottom, 8 points from the first 14 games, won just 1 game, drawn 5, lost 8, goal difference of -15. We didn't win our first game of the season under Walker until November!

To say he wasn't given enough time is laughable. The man was quite clearly taking us down; and you only have to read/listen to numerous players who played under him from that time period - Snodin, Southall, Stuart, Parkinson, Horne etc. to know that the players thought he was a right plonker and didn't respect him at all. He'd long since lost the dressing room.

One day, in this country, someone will come - a man of courage and bravery who won't manage just to protect his position like this managerial generation.

He will take a team of unknowns, cast offs and youngsters and turn them into champions.

In all honesty I don't really care what club it is as long as it's not the strange people across the park, to break this monied monopoly will be the greatest gift to fans brought up on Utd, Chelsea and now City.

I pray when Moyes goes it happens here.
