You're right there, and whilst we're being hypothetical (again) i'd gladly swap finishing in a place that doesn't get us into Europe with winning a trophy (and finishing in a place that doesn't get us into Europe...)

But hey ho, i'm clearly being chastised again for criticizing a manager who's "restored a bit of pride" in little old Everton and made them punch above their weight.

Restored a bit of pride ??!! Christ !!!!

10 years ago, just staying in the prem was considered OUR achievement mate. In some ways it was our trophy every year. A bit of ****ing pride ?! Just the fact we have been seeing european football again or even talking about it, going back to wembley etc, getting our fans looking up the league table and not fearing relegation every year is arguably down to him.

Moyes should see it as a complement that us Evertonians are busting his nuts because he hasn't won a trophy yet. We have got greedy now and have forgotten about how **** it was for 20 years (bar the odd couple).

This phrase gets on my nerves. In financial terms we are quite little and do punch above our weight. I think you need to face facts a bit, we don't have that many fans outside of merseyside and the fans we have aren't all that well off.
That doesn't mean that we will never win a trophy again, but it does mean that we should be grateful for the relative success that our team has and appreciate that things could be a lot worse.

They could also be better. If you want me to be grateful for finshing 7th it's not going to happen. 7th is failure at a club like this.

It's greedy to want a trophy now? FFS.

Sorry mate you're at best exaggerating at worst telling porkies, sure we had a couple of flirtations with relegation but it doesn't portray a true reflection of this club. In your haste to champion moyes you completely ignore that historically (and I mean more than a few years in the fckin' 90s) we don't do relegation.

We may be **** at times but those relegation games against Cov and Wimbledon were big news simply because of the rarity, to hear fans like you talking about us like B'ham City et al is fckin' sh1te.

Our team now is a million miles away from the team we had for the 10 years before Moyes took over. The Coventry and Wimbledon seasons weren't just 2 isolated seasons, they were just the years were we came closest to going down. Most of those years a top 10 finish was out of our reach.

So what?

Is this what being Everton's saviour is now? fannying around mid table never threatening to win eff all ever again.

Look around Goodison next time you go it's full of aul' arses like me brought up on knowing the difference between B'ham City and us.

When us fckers are gone who's gonna be there? because the choice of football clubs who try and win stuff is quite large in the north west.

kinell, we need to win stuff not stroke each other on the web saying "top 10 - marvellous".

Knowing the difference between us and Birmingham City isn't going to pay for top players or their wages though is it. Clubs don't win trophies because of who they are, they win them because of who they have playing for them.

And we're not in a position where we are not threatening to win anything ever again. Despite the lack of money at the club we are still in the top 6 teams in this country most likely to win something.

90% of neutral fans reading these posts from some of our fans, expecting us to win stuff, competing with the spending power of Man City, Utd, Chelsea, Arsenal, Spurs etc on a budget of next to nothing will be laughing their heads off.

Whatever you think of Moyes, he deserves a lot of respect for how he's improved our team with scant resources.

Some of his negative tactics (at times), drive me insane too but when he believes he has good enough players he does play a better style of football, like we're seeing this season.

In the decade before Moyes took over, apart from the year we finished 6th we were looking down on the teams below and worrying about what they were doing rather than on those above us. It wasn't big news because of the rarity at all !? It was because a club of our size simply shouldn't be in that position.

I seem to remember representatives of tv companies from over 35 countries were at GP for the Wimbledon game - I wonder why?

Hmmm, stroking each other on the web. Not too sure who you have been on with. Anyway, the lid has a point. Our team is vastly improved. He is not saying we should settle for it, just enjoy the fact our team is pretty stout and no one around these parts is even close to uttering the words 'relegation fight'.

Yeh like they were at Boro, Birmingham, Portsmouth etc who have won stuff.

oops sorry, I retract that I forgot there's an umbilical link in the minds of some that winning a trophy without a billionaire means relegation - it's written in stone.

Really?

You want to talk about rewriting history? Okay, lets look at the league finishes from the last 20 years. With the exception of one season under Joe Royle, let's see if people can pinpoint when our fortunes as a club picked up:

1991/92 - 12th
1992/93 - 13th
1993/94 - 17th
1994/95 - 15th
1995/96 - 6th
1996/97 - 15th
1997/98 - 17th
1998/99 - 14th
1999/00 - 13th
2000/01 - 16th
2001/02 - 15th
2002/03 - 7th
2003/04 - 17th
2004/05 - 4th
2005/06 - 11th
2006/07 - 6th
2007/08 - 5th
2008/09 - 5th
2009/10 - 8th
2010/11 - 7th
2011/12 - 7th

Only twice in the past 10 seasons under Moyes have we finished lower than 10th.

Compared to only finishing above 12th once in the 11 seasons before Moyes came.

Of those 11 seasons before Moyes, 2 of the seasons we survived relegation on the final day, and 1 of those was on goal difference and thanks to Chelsea beating Bolton, as we couldn't beat Coventry at home to save ourselves.

Of the other 9 seasons, 1 was a close call (96/97; we won only 1 of our last 8 games) and the 4 years under Smith were all years of struggle, be it pulling clear of relegation in the March/April time period each season.

So, that's a total of 7 out of the 11 seasons before Moyes came that we were involved in a relegation fight, to varying degrees of seriousness.

If the stark look at the positional finishes above for the past 20 years don't illustrate the impact Moyes had on the club, very little else will.
