4th place or F.A Cup and a mid table finish?

It works both ways in the long term. We could win the FA cup and forever look back on it as a great achievement. On the other hand, finishing mid-table might not satisfy our best players or attract new ones. With our financial situation I think 4th place would benefit us most in the long term... keeping our best players, earning more moolah, attracting more players and probably giving us a better platform to win the FA cup the season after.

a trophy. finishing forth would be amazing but we have not got the money to push on just like '05 and if we get 'villarealed' again then it hits us hard.

nice to have a choice but anyway even if we do get a final shot at glory do we get a millwall or cardiff city on a plate? do we ****, we have to slalom past most of the sky four and then at the final step face an angry chelsea who have a last shot at silver!!!!!

maybe i`m wrong and the CL is where its at man coz we didnt turn up in the FA cup last season- WHY?

.... i get it, attract mercenary players. tbh - winning league games and watching league games is the best but i want us to win the fa cup and all it entails

We won't have to go the full mercenary hog as we already have a capable squad of players. Get into the CL places- reward our top players- sign the 1 or 2 quality additions going forward and have the luck of 1 or 2 top youngsters being ready to come through. Thats a blueprint for success if CL status is maintained in the medium term. Invest in the playing squad yes but still maintain a structure that the club are happy with.

we`ve kept them tho, the FA cup is a major trophy and always will be

would have to be 4th place finish for me as we all know that its the champions league which keeps players and also attracts players which is what will help us reach and move on to the next level

If we don't get a CL spot then they will leave next year. Where have you been?

all true in some respect. We need CL football, but we also need trophies, just the effect of us reaching the FA cup final has seen our fan base grow.
I live in birmingham, home to villa and city, west brom and wolves is just down the road, seeing an everton shirt round here was like finding Rocking horse sh*t three years ago, but yesterday a kid walked past my house wearing a polo shirt in the last seasons away colours, everton badge worn with pride.
that was the effect of being runners up in an FA cup, when I was at school there where as many everton supporters as manu and liverpool round here, OK they are fair weather supporters but every extra replica kit sale brings money to our club, every extra bit of silverware brings more fair weather supporters and their money too, to take this club to the next level without a sugerdaddy owner it needs to be marketed correctly that means silverware, CL comes second, but we also need the CL and the europa league to attract the best youth talent across europe, and globe for that matter to keep the conveyor belt of star players going, and to really compete and win on a regular basis.
this and new stadium

hard one for me actually, but I think I'll prefer 4:th over a cupwin and a mediocre tablefinish. Yes, winning a trophy is very important, but neither the FA-Cup or the League Cup will bring in much money or be more attractive when getting new targets than finishing fourth and be able to lure players with CL football.

Again, what did Portsmouth get out of winning the FA Cup?

Heart says FA Cup, head says 4th spot. Getting into the CL would be far more rewarding (on all fronts), but it wouldn't beat that feeling of seeing Everton lift that trophy, representing the oldest cup competition in the world.

I'll take 4th in the league - there would be a lot of wins along the way to earn that.
If trophies are what you want, here's our monster one from last year:
