30 Years of Excuses

I am of OAP bus pass age now
And in conversations with mates, I said I don’t think I will ever see Everton win the league as a match goer.
Am I being defeatist or pragmatic

The frightening thing for me is I feel I am now conditioned to accept that we as a club are simply making the numbers up
As am I
Never mind the league I can't see us winning anything in my lifetime
We have been fortunate to see the 60's and 80's
I need to see us win something before I go please

Our decline started really in the late 1980s,signing the likes of McCall,McDonald,Nevin,Cottee whilst the other lot were going for genuine quality we were basically accepting second best,Heysel? Yes a massive turning point, our board even then was weak, look at how the perpetrators of that horrific night actually prospered,we should never have allowed HK to have gone,if Lineker left as he did we should have had first option on any return, again a poor board, the list is endless, the decline has been steady ever since all the way through to where we are currently.
Very true mate.

I think you can win a Cup on a run of good luck, so still hold a little hope 🤣🤣

Have you read “The End” by Gavin Buckland? Loads of detail about how we dropped the ball with Lineker coming back. Loads about how badly the board have handled everything for over 50 years. Got lucky with Kendall Mk1. The club has been disastrously run for decades.

As with everything, we are bypassed by time. We helped found the Premier League then almost fell out of it in the second season, we get taken over but it was 8 years after other clubs started and we wound up nearly sold to utter chancers then we get a new ground 15 years after it should of happened

Said in the match thread it's 10 years without even as much as a semi final never mind a trophy. Any notion of us being a 'big club' has well gone and you can thank Bill Kenwright for that. Damage was done a long time ago and nice, new stadium isn't going to sort it.
We’ve been in one Cup Final since 1995. One. Cardiff City have been in two. In fact, we’ve only been in 2 in the last 35 years. It’s utterly pathetic. Between 1977 and 1989, we were in 7 Cup Finals.

I feel our fans are the problem lads.

If you want to go back even further sanctioning the sale of Alan Ball and refusing to pay £100k to make the Main Stand at Goodison cantilever with no obstructions.🙄

i’m bored of the moyes bashing i really am

When are we going to stop as fanbase finding excuses to avoid having tough conversations about our football club and its ambitions.

It’s a bit cult like, similar to those lot across the park.
For me, i can see a clear pathway to better times. Its something i wasnt seeing at all previously to this since Ancelotti left and on that occasion it was unfortuantely false hope. The nature of the league now is such that there is no quick fix and if you get things wrong it can quickly spiral the other way.

There has definately been progress this season but injuries/afcon has come at a bad time. There are some issues Moyes must deal with, in particular right back and up front. But i can see progress and i'm optimistic, i would certainly be less so if fans forced a managerial change which could be costly. I would almost certainly be looking at those in charge of recruitment before the manager.
