city have been playing actual wingers in the wing back roles

they have much better players than us tho..

tbf one of them was jesus navas for a time yesterday, he wouldn't even get in our u23's. chelsea have been doing the same with moses i think.

coleman's still good, but our problems are creating chances, i don't see how adding an extra defender in is going to help.

going at teams (especially certain teams down the bottom) with a more attacking formation like below, or even mirallas up top with lukaku, would be much more preferable for me.

stek
coleman jags williams oviedo
barkley gueye
bolasie mirallas deulofeu
lukaku

i think we have to try mirallas or deulofeu in the no. 10 position, only option available to us

Exactly. The personnel used is more important than formations....and the space between the lines in a formation.

Koeman wants it too compact, so it makes it all a bit moot.

stek
holgate williams mori
coleman gueye barry mirallas
bolasie lukaku barkley

defensive

or

stek
holgate williams mori
coleman gueye barkley deulofeu
bolasie lukaku mirallas

go for it
if we are gonna have wingers in the wing back roles then bolasie and lennon are the only ones who could come close to being any good at it

Some right silly picks (I think that's how you spell it) here.
Lennon-rwb
Barkley wide left...and that's just the ones I could be bothered writing

Something does need to be done though, just what something and just how radical...or basic simple, which sometimes works
but 3things need to be understood as given...self evident as the yanks once said.

a) The best way is to not be sucked in by this set of numbers or the other, but rather play a system that makes the very best of what you have.
b) Koeman thinks that change is actually needed...OFM's were both of the 'my way or the highway' type
c) He actually knows what his best 11 is

well, 'debatable' on the silly picks, mate.
If the weaker opposition is playing one up top and defensive, and we've got them under the cosh, do we really need more than Mori and a bit of tracking back from Del / Mirallas to cover any breakaways? Having our most creative 6 on the pitch - Coleman, Bolasie, Mirallas, Del, Rom and Ross - all roughly covering an area and role but flexible to interchange and make runs, is more likely to create chances for us than not. Its not a rigid formation or system - we've seen Bolasie interchange with Rom, Barkley drift wider, etc to exploit perceived defensive weaknesses already. Personally, I dont think a rigid attacking shape or a free-for-all is the answer, but some flexibility and zonal role is what I would shoot for.

In a more balanced game - where we need to think about defensive shape more- then I'd have Baines ideally in the wing back role and Barkley, tucked in further up field (by no means a winger, as you remark). Bainsey not being fit, I'd play Mirallas there, with Mori covering. Oviedo is not offering much there atm.

I would shift routinely to 3 at the back (coz we have he players to play it) and drop a defensive mid when playing the likes of Burnley at home, etc

But I guess the above are 3 good reasons why I'm not a footy manager...
