2026 FIFA World Cup

It's such a hassle to get to. I couldn't even figure out how to walk to the bar that Everton fans had planned to meet at before the game against Bournemouth last summer. The stadium itself is fine, but the surrounding area is abysmal. Lots of surface parking and nothing.
I counted a few weeks ago and like only 2 or 3 of the American venues are in or near city centers, the rest are in the middle of nowhere like Jerryworld, Met Life and Foxborough

So terrible

Can't remember what it's called, but the stadium in Nola is in the town, and there were huge numbers walking to the game. The stadium itself is fairly standard stuff, but you'd think it would easily be big enough. I guess they didn't bid to host matches?

Well, one major difference in US from rest of globe in terms of arenas/stadiums is that they are not usually anchored in neighborhoods centrally in a city that is accessible by public transportation or walking. This is more common with smaller venues like for hoops like say Madison Square Garden but I can think of very few in general (none for American football or Association football) that are centrally located or easily accessible

I attended UofM in US and even the stadium was a hike from central campus but it was part of the game day ritual to walk to games together. I suppose this is similar with Everton's new stadium and even revamped Camp Nou is a warm tradition to arrive at matches together throughout city. I do not believe the WC in US will be like this in any way

I recall last WC in US and Brasil preparing to play at Rose Bowl and fans boarding a school bus in Pasadena to take them to the stadium which was not reachable really by foot - people were festive in the street, abruptly stopping and then hopping on a bus. A bit of a buzz kill me thinks

This is most likely the squad based on all the announced omissions. With maybe Spence in ahead of Livramento. Based on what was available I don’t think it’s that bad. I’d have had a specialist left back in over Burn. And I’d have had Scott, Wharton or Garner ahead of Mainoo and probably Henderson. But we just have to accept Henderson is there for his leadership which I think we missed in the previous tournament. I have absolutely no issue with Foden and Palmer being left out. Neither deserve to be in.

Midfield means England cannot win the World Cup. The age-old problem remains: no Xavi, Modric, or Kroos type player to dictate the play. Palmer, at his best, would offer something totally unexpected (as we saw against Spain), but Foden has no business on the plane. Tuchel doesn't give a damn about the English tabloid press, so that's a good thing for England's chances. But then he still seems prone to picking favourites rather than picking on form. How else to justify the likely inclusions of Stones, Henderson, and Toney?

The rip off begins.
Nipped into the official Scotland Shop just opened for the WC here in Aberdeen.
£20 for half n half scarfs.
And amazingly 20 for a t-shirt that's 16 in Primark in the same shopping centre.

Midfield and also defence IMO. Our two best defenders are Stones and James and they are world class at their best but they can't be trusted to stay fit. From them it's a bit of a drop-off although Guehi and Konsa are decent. Especially Guehi. As I said Henderson is in more for leadership around the camp, and I think that explains Stones too. Tuchel has stated in the press before that he likes having Stones around because the standards he sets in training are a good example to the younger players.

Personally I'd have had Toney in too, but it's still a surprise for me considering he hasn't featured much under Tuchel until now despite being available. Palmer doesn't deserve a place IMO. Hasn't performed for Chelsea this season and the times I've seen him play for England since the euros he's looked like he doesn't want to be there.

I don't have many issues with the players picked. It's more the justification/process that I have issues with. He claims players were picked on form - but they weren't really. I understand his reasons for selecting the older players, but it's got to be on him when Stones, inevitably, breaks down. Because he will.

I think they all say they pick on form but they never really do. And yeah that's the gamble with Stones and James. We could have a situation where they're both unavailable

Why does Henderson need to take a squad place for his "leadership"?

Same with Coleman, just get him in as a coach or back room staff if that's the case.
