It would not surprise me if Infantino and Trump conspired to try and give the spot to Israel.
Failing that, I imagine it will have to be a team from the Asian federation.
Most likely the top ranked of the Asian countries which haven’t qualified.

I was 10 for Italia 90 and that tournament remains by far my favourite World Cup.
I don’t want ‘his’ World Cup to be this one.

Me too, by area, but for football they were part of UEFA before they were banned by UEFA. As Asia has its own football confederation Russia might be persuaded to become part of the Asian confederation if, say, it was in anyone's interest in them doing so.
I was 12 and got an almighty elbow on the top of the head from some giant farmer that juggles cows by day when Ireland beat Romania on pens to get through the first knock out round. I know, low bar but the country was bouncing. I was left dazed, confused but buzzing. Good times.
Its unlucky timing for your son but maybe he won't care about the geopolitics and enjoy it, as long as he's nowhere near a farmer when Pickford saves a pen

See exactly what you mean, when I was 10 we had our first colour tv and the World Cup was in Mexico in 1970. One of in my opinion greatest World Cups ever, loads of great teams, England had arguably their best ever team, Bobby Moore arrested for stealing, probably a set up, Gordon Banks, one of the best goalies ever getting a stomach bug, before not playing against a great West German team, Alan Ball at his peak. Then you had what I thought was the best Brazilian team ever, Pele, Jairzinho, Person, Rivelino etc, who deservedly won it. Brilliant Italian team as well in the sweltering heat of Mexico City.
