Just look at the difference in the squad strength in 18 months.
Unbelievable.
The difference in playing style - no more long ball up the channels, relying on set pieces. We're playing boss passing football, with huge movement of players and exploitation of the spaces created
The change in approach - positive substitutions when the game is there to be won.

Even my cats can see that Martínez inherited a decent defence which initially did very well but might now be unravelling just as little. They also talk about Wigan's dreadful defensive reputation. Give me a shout if you need any footballing advice from my cats, though.

Fair point, but given our limited budget and the fact we had only one forward on the books and we'd just come off the back of a season were our defence had been very sound, it's prefectly reasonible to understand why Martinez choose to prioritize attack over defensive recruits last summer.

The overriding thing to all these 'yes bobby, no bobby' arguments is that he has given us back OUR PRIDE IN OUR CLUB.

no more negative bollox from the man at the top, no more knives to gunfights, no more pluckly little Everton.

We now have a manager with belief, a man with positivity and ambition coursing through his veins. A man who refers to us as US.

We are Everton.

Well said mate ;)

As well as everything else...he had the vision, and indeed the confidence in his own decision making, to sign Samuel Eto'o, and know exactly how he would play him. That in a nutshell speaks volumes about his ability as a manager.

To be honest he has done better than I expected him too, I wasn't of the mind that he would take us to the verge of relegation but I never expected us to be winning games in style and signing quality players like Eto'o. Yes he has faults, all managers do but he has done far more right than wrong so far.

Maybe we got too used to Moyes and the comfort of 6th or 7th and never thought we could go any higher but I feel we have a solid base for the future with an excellent crop of young players who can only improve and a great bunch of experienced players guiding them. We may not win a trophy this season or next but I fell we are closer now than we have been for many years and it will happen.
