I guess my point is, look at how good Southampton would be if they had the money/standing to be able to keep every player:
Forster
Clyne Alderweireld VVD Shaw
Wanyama Schneiderlin
Bale Lallana Oxlade
Walcott
Stupid formation obviously, but the point is, we can follow that model (invest heavily in a modern cutting edge scouting setup - except we could invest even more and make it even better, and be able to get a level above the targets they were able to - I guarantee they identified even better players who they weren't quite able to get) and then not have to sell the players (and also ideally not end up hiring a cack manager). There's better examples on the continent (Leipzig, Monaco) but but this is a Prem team so easier parallel.
On the other hand, Moshiri has stated he sees there being a short window where we need to bridge the gap NOW, which is what I see as presumably the justification for Sigurdsson/Rooney etc. That sort of short-termism is what makes me uncomfortable, and I don't know why he sees such a small window, but he must know something we don't, so hey-ho, it's just kinda bizarre because it flies in the face of every other success story of recent times.
Also it's possible that the above is happening concurrently anyway with Unsy's U23 buys and players like Onyekuru, so who knows, it may pan out that we're getting the best of both anyway
