£30m for Shaw?

Player Valuation: £40m
Apparently United are in advanced talks to sign the young Southampton left-back for twice the amount they valued Baines at. I've seen glimpses of him and he's looked quite good but I've seen no evidence that he's going to be such a phenomenal talent and it's crazy money for a fullback and an unproven player.

Lallana is reported to be joining him for a further £25m. Now I have been impressed by him and it would seem that he would fit in well with a side that plays good football but we only extorted a further £2m out of them for an established international and a player known personally and rated highly by the management.

The Saints don't need to sell and I imagine that there was interest in the pair from the likes of Chelsea and Liverpool. But it still seems like silly money for two players who could easily find playing for United overwhelming. Again I think it was a case of Moyes planning for the future rather than getting players who were experienced and professional enough to pull him out of any mess in the short-term.

People keep talking about how Fergie struggled to begin with but his first few signings included Anderson, McLair, Hughes, Leighton and Donaghy.

Any story about United transfers now more than ever are utter turd mate, they haven't got a manager and their owners won't have a scooby doo about players - and woodward looks just as clueless, until they appoint som#eone the papers will keep linking the 'easy' transfer stories though, Lallana, Shaw, Coleman, Fabregas, and others that have been long time linked with united to fill out their column inches

On another note though, United will not get anyone in who is in wanted by the likes of Chelsea, City and possibly now even the rs, never mind the likes of Madrid or Barca/Bayern etc

They failed to beat these teams out in the past and that's whilst they had the CL and battling for the title every year to offer, now allt hey have is money and in that regard the ones i mentioned will be able to match anything they throw at players

United will enjoy a summer of frustration, or signing players who are retreads (Sneider, Van der Vaart etc) or if they do get a 'hyped' talent they will vastly overpay in transfer fee and wages, its the only way they will be able to do business now till they get back to their 'divine right position'

£30m will probably include about £15m of add on's no matter where he's going.

He's a good prospect but then again so was Micah Richards

Shaw is well more hyped than Richards was mate, and Uniteds position from now on is to drive players prices up as its their only way of attracting players over the likes of chelsea, city etc

30 million for football player. The world is truly mad.

If Cashley goes to madrid, Shaw is a dead cert for chelsea.

He's good but he doesn't offer the attacking threat Baines does (although he's not bad going forward). Since his debut for Southampton he's played over 4,500 minutes of football and has the grand total of zero goals to his name. So, with that in mind, and also considering he's dead young etc, is he really worth 30m?

I think not. Southampton will not be able to get rid quickly enough if a 30m bid comes in, imo.

I'd rather have Oviedo baby.

I don't think he is. Richards had a lot of attention when he was 18/19 getting is first cap after only 20 odd appearances for City, he was constantly linked with moves to Arsenal, Chelsea and Spurs for big money.

But the point is his career can go either way like Richards has and others as well, often these early bloomers stand out because of their size and speed make them the exception when their so young. But as time goes by and they've got no more to offer they stagnate and their hype fades away.

Also Utd will for a good few years yet attract top talent, don't be fooled by the media saying because their not in CL good player won't go their. Obviously it been a poor season for them but they are still probably the biggest brand in global football and players who play for them will still get the top endorsement contracts and the like, that's just as important as playing midweek games to most players.

I think 30mil is fair Southampton don't want to sell the lad, I hate how people say the prices are inflated etc well yeah they don't want to sell him so they will put a huge price on his head. Like Barkley for us we wouldn't want to sell him for less then 50mil because we want him to stay here.

True but then if the player wants to leave that complicates things. You don't want a player who doesn't want to be there.

Edit: Not that Shaw doesn't want to be at Saints. Although from what I hear, his head has been turned massively.
