    2018/19 Richarlison

Brazil poor. Richarlison hasn't really been in the game yet. 1-0 Czechs at HT.

    Dear David Moyes...

I was a big fan of Moyes but this is revisionist. We looked very short of it in Bucharest, for example. The Fiorentina away game. Countless home games against really poor teams, like the one against Paul Jewell's Wigan. Short of quality, sure, but also short of spirit.

    2018/19 Marco Silva

Not sure previous incumbents (90s onwards) would have a much better record than 4 points from 12, but haven’t checked the data. Nobody is making a messiah out of him — though it’s interesting that you have to resort to huge exaggeration in making the point — but it’s is fair to give him credit...

Do we need a new penalty taker?

Yes we do. Tosun's stats look trustworthy but he's never on the pitch.

Match Thread Everton v Chelsea - Preview, Match Report and MotM Poll

One thing that struck me today: two teams whose players look like they are too inhibited by tactical information. I wonder if this is something that's contributing to our inconsistency and might wane with more stability.

    Common under new management?

    2018/19 Marco Silva

Wrong. If you want to call a spade a spade, don't twist people's words! None of them said or suggested we should have been 'buried', which is the term you used. As I said -- and very happy to repeat -- we were bad in the first half and on the favourable end of things. Silva can only manage the...

    2018/19 Yerry Mina

This thread is great. Just give him a bit of time! Good performance today. Off the pace at times but that will come. Expecting to see the best of him next season, so hope he stays injury-free.

Unfair, I think, and a bit of a lazy SKY-opinion for me. We weren't good by any stretch, but 'buried' is a massive exaggeration. Their chances were not ones you'd expect to go in. Reflected in the xG -- they only had around 1 in the first half. So losing 1-0 yes, buried no. It also discredits...

    2018/19 Andre Gomes

Like him a lot but I don't think he's been consistent enough to warrant us making him our big buy of the summer. How much more will Ndombele be going for, for example?

    2018/19 Marco Silva

You'd never have found out because he'd have been sacked!

    2018/19 Marco Silva

When did I say results are not a priority? The plain and simple statistical truth is this: it's perfectly possible for the worse manager to have a better points return over a short timeframe (say, around a season). There are many reasons for it. That's why sensible people don't judge it purely...

    2018/19 Marco Silva

I can't tell if you are being intentionally disingenuous or not. Of course a manager would 'take' a win in every game. But 'taking' a result is not really how sport works, is it?

They matter, but not all that matters.
  16. Berenger

    2018/19 Richarlison

Very harsh. Bound to disappoint relative to the ridiculous expectations of the fans -- perhaps.

Youth - When are we going to use them?

The gap between U23 and PL is huge. If they were good enough they'd be on the fringes of the first team like Dowell etc.

    2018/19 Marco Silva

Answer the question. If you believe results are all that matter, then your answer should be Allardyce. I prefer Silva out of the two because, unlike you, I don't think that results are all that matter.
  19. Berenger

    2018/19 Marco Silva

Nobody said there was. He was suggesting that results are all that matter, so the question was a counterfactual to understand if he truly believed that. Don't spend too long getting your head around that though.
