Unless they foresee him as the next Kevin De Bruyne, this isn’t necessarily true. I do agree that he should be mainly utilized as a central midfielder. Doesn’t hurt to have a versatile guy that can step in and spare you from the likes of Holgate and Godfrey
I don’t think he is a “right back” despite how well he can play there. He is looking like the guy you can pidgeon-hole into the team just to get your best players onto the pitch and he won’t let you down wherever he plays. Just looks a flat out baller. Definitely will be the one to watch this season
If we move on from Iwobi (and don’t sign a right midfielder) I can see Garner being used as a false right midfielder that allows Patterson to go beyond him and he provides cover. It would allow us to have all of our guys on the pitch and Garner has shown he is capable of playing around the wing...
United didn’t win that champions league without Owen. I actually think he is a very solid comparison. The thing about Garner is he has all the potential in the world to be great because he is athletic and well built. If he wanted to he could actually continue to play wing back as he has pace. He...
Comparisons for young players aren’t meant to be like for like. I actually don’t even think Scholes is the right comparison but there is nothing wrong with using him as a blueprint.
Yeah Onana looks a freak of nature at times and definitely has something. Idk what has gotten into people but I hope they get over it when he isn’t sold because it’s gotten old. Both look very promising and we should be grateful we have so much potential in one area of the pitch
The thing I look for in players like Garner is potential. Yes he is well rounded and can do most things well. But does he have the pace, size, physicality and mentality to reach that next level? Mentality will be up for debate but athletically he has all the potential to be great.
On the plus side if he is forced to fill in at RB and does a good job (from what I’ve seen he is quick enough) it gives me hope that he can be one of those players that can plug in to many areas on the pitch and give us that versatile option we’ve been looking for. Like I said he seems as well...
To be honest he and Onana both look like very high ceiling players. If there is one thing I can give Frank credit for, he seems to have an eye for midfielders. He’s quick, big can spot a pass and not afraid to get stuck in. If only we had guys like this when we had some half decent teams
I can see the angle of keeping Gana in the lineup as he is playing at a high level and has loads of experience. I do think both Garner and Onana need to see more time on the pitch together and Gana should be rotated with Onana as opposed to Gana just starting every game.
The fact that he looks like a legitimately well rounded talent is huge for me. The fact that he also doesn’t look out of place in a Ride or Die Yoloswag Balls to the Wall midfield also has me very excited about him. He actually can play footy, get stuck in and not roasted for pace every five...
First half he was good. Second half disappeared. What I liked about Garner is he has the size and physicality, just the right amount of pace and has shown he can on occasionally pick out the pass. He has range.
He worked really hard in that first half and got stuck in as a box to box...
