    2022/23 Sean Dyche

He doesn’t quite fit the stereotype, does he? Good on him.

It’d take some courage for investors to say “let’s stick with the absolutely no plan Montgomery Brewster model.” Surely, in the name of sanity, any other plan is better than the current plan.

The way I see it, I’m comforted by that as a baseline. It’s enough. Just. Hopefully we are able to make some sensible, if undramatic, steps forward with the squad over the summer. We don’t need much, just a few round pegs for round holes. That would be enough to deliver a few more points - by...

It’s not great, but it’s not terrible. Especially given the unbalanced squad he was working with. That extrapolates to 44-45 points. Enough for 11th/12th this season - which I would settle for next season.

He did exactly what we needed him to. He’ll forever have my gratitude for that. But this summer is absolutely crucial. If we aren’t incredibly canny in the market, next season will be one almighty struggle.

    Say what, now?

I've been curious for a while about what our 'chances of staying up' would look like plotted on a graph encompassing the whole season, so I made one: (Data from FiveThirtyEight). So we sacked Lampard at the absolute nadir. The recovery certainly hasn't been linear, and it's felt that way...

We made two subs. We won 5-1. Dyche got it spot-on.

I’ve been very critical of him lately, but he played an absolute blinder today. Team selection and tactics absolutely spot-on. Huge credit to him for seeing sense over Keane, too.

He's clearly seen that a fair chunk of us wanted subs on Monday night. He was prickly about that.

Ah yes of course, and that happened after that article and I guess was pretty much the last player Dyche bought there?

Am I reading that right, that the most he's ever spent on a player is £4 million for Tarkowski?

Yeah, we'll see I guess. He doesn't seem like the meek sort who'll just nod along in transfer meetings though, does he? Who knows what dung was being flung against the wall in Finch Farm on that last day...

We'll see. I've no faith in Everton's transfer strategy. It's all very well putting a recruitment team in place, but if the owner does what he fancies anyway then it means nothing. I suspect Dyche will insist on players he wants. I can't see him standing idly by.

I think it's this question, above everything else, that alarms me. We need a rebuild, whatever division we're in next season, and I don't want us to be rebuilt in Burnley's image. Particularly since our budget is likely to be Burnley-sized.

Indeed. I’ve done my best to clear it up for you. Feel free to take it or leave it, but I’m wishing you a good evening regardless.

Like I say, that's entirely your interpretation and you're entitled to it. I know what I think, but thanks for your alternative opinion on my thoughts.

    2022/23 Sean Dyche

I think you're wallpapering over my thoughts with your own interpretation of what I think. He clearly wants players he can trust, and Keane's performances have shown that to be irrespective of form on the pitch. That's his prerogative, and I can understand it. That you've moulded that into...

There's one reason Keane, Tarkowski and McNeil are in the team every week - and it's nothing to do with their ability with a football. It's entirely about Dyche's familiarity with them.

I’m embarrassed by how vigorously he picks his nose on the touchline. He had finger and thumb up there constantly yesterday.
