All fair. I think weve done well for 60 points. If we get 50 it will be a bit underwhelming, but after last seasons hes probably earned a bit of time.

Yes maye, but over the last 4-5 years, we've been a team that has generally got around 50 points per season haven't we? I can understand people saying 18th isn't the bar, but 50 points seems a fair initial bar to judge Ancelotti against.

    2020/21 Ben Godfrey

I don't think he was garbage for Norwich though. I mean Farke said he was their best player and the best defender in the championship.

What for mate? The Silva period?

    2020/21 Carlo Ancelotti

Yes fair point. I'm just not sure though, with our current full back options, and the lack of protection in front we would benefit from a 4-3-3. If Gbamin can come in and find his feet, maybe the discussion is changed a little. My take is that we have enough going forward, but we are wide open...

Of course but after 4 games. Under Silva we were nearly half way through. I mean even if you take the Silva's entirity here it was 68 points through 53, which is 49 points a season. Thats about 9-14th sort of form. I want us to score more points than that.

The issue is that the defence then gets left exposed.

    reality check

Thats probably fair. Would you sack Ancelotti for finishing 9th?

How do you solve the issue of midfield though? Without exposing other flaws?

But what would you used to justify Everton being number 1? I am not just saying it's Evertons level, it's just acknowledging where we were last season under our last previous manager. It'snot a number plucked out of the air.

    2020/21 Carlo Ancelotti

To be fair, I argued at great length that 18th probably was too low so I can't really argue with what you've said. We did some things very well, but lacked any, kind of resilience when faced with adversity. It showed by us never coming from behind (about 20th in the division for that) and the...

Well technically yes. But I suppose it's about how much we would want to progress this season.

Agree really on Nkonkou and Gordon. He obviously favours experience, but when players play badly he has to own that one. I was a big supporter of Olsen (see his thread) and would happily play him, but I think Pickford has been ok of late. I mean today he made 3 or 4 brilliant saves to keep us...

Fair enough. I appreciate the reply and I'm not trying to get at you, it's an interesting discussion. My points would be, even on an awful run, we could well be 7th at the end of this week, or very close to it. Secondly, the side was 18th when Silva left us, so we are moving towards 7th and...

    2020/21 Carlo Ancelotti

Fair enough, but managers do go through phases where they lose 4 games in 5 or 6. It's not great but it does happen, especially when you take over a side who were 18th.
  16. catcherintherye

    2020/21 Richarlison

I thought Pickford was actually better today, and strangely liekd the bit at the end, he made the save and went and cleaned out the 2nd ball. It sort of reminded me of the goalkeeper who first arrived here, who just went for things 100%. If he's going to go down, he might as well go down...

    2020/21 Carlo Ancelotti

Ok. Fair enough and there isn't really any comeback to that. All you can say, is he's never been manager who has a plan, and works towards it. He's a pragmatist that amends the system to suit opponents. There's a legitimate argument to say he's not done this very well over the last few games...

Well we were left 18th under the last permanent manager weren't we?
