Everton Summer Transfer Thread - 2022

Think you're completely wrong mate.

Well run clubs use the last minute period in a transfer windows for opportunistic transfers (Fellaini is a good example, we bought when we did to prevent being gazumped), or to capitalise on those who are ran chaotic to offload/sell at a premium.

We're desperately trying to bring players in to keep us competitive enough to stay in the league. The manager has spoke of a void in attacking areas for months, we're 5 games in with that void, and we're hours away from being left with that void until January.

It's far from ideal and I long for a transfer window when we aren't in a panic in the closing stages, scrambling around with the "Good evening Jim..." circus.
Can't really agree with this. Firstly, when we signed Fellaini, we could have done with a number of players, and wound up with just him. More pertinent to our current situation is the fact that we needed half a team or more, and had 27p and a bag of crisps to bargain with. We couldn't afford to pay even 10% over the odds for one player, because we might miss out on another altogether. Add to that the fact that ambitious players might want to wait to see if a more successful club comes in for them, and other clubs might want to secure their own targets before allowing outgoing transfers, and it's not surprising that things take time. I'm not saying everything has been spot on, because it never is, but I'll guarantee that our recruitment people weren't deliberately idling along, and weren't aware that earlier recruitment, if possible, would be better.

Morning all, well, here we are at the final update before the window closes tonight at 11pm and there’s plenty to get through. With a multitude of reports confirming the imminent arrivals of Gana and Garner I’ve focused on rumours of other possible deals for the blues. It promises to be a busy day so enjoy and have a good one!

Everton are ‘working on many strikers’ ahead of tonight’s 11 pm transfer deadline, according to reliable reporter Fabrizio Romano.

One player reportedly on Everton’s radar is Ben Brereton Diaz of Blackburn Rovers, who only has one year remaining on his current contract at Ewood Park. And Romano has informed GiveMeSport that the Chile international is indeed someone who Lampard is ‘considering for that position’ alongside an extensive list of other options.

He said: “They’re working on many strikers, Ben Brereton Diaz, and there are many, many players really that they are considering for that position.”

Meanwhile, Football Insider have reported that Everton have ‘registered their interest’ in signing Ollie Watkins, with Aston Villa said to be ‘open’ to letting him depart. Watkins and his manager Steven Gerrard are said to not see eye-to-eye, and Everton could look to take advantage of the tense situation at Villa Park with a move for the versatile England international.

Director of Football Kevin Thelwell is reportedly still keen on signing Watford striker Joao Pedro for Everton. It was reported a couple of weeks ago that the Goodison Park outfit were preparing to match Newcastle United’s offer for Pedro. However, the Magpies have since gone on to sign striker Alexander Isak from Real Sociedad, and so this has potentially left the door open for the Merseysiders to swoop in for a late move before the deadline.

As per The Daily Mail, sharing news of an approach to sign Villarreal attacker Samuel Chukwueze, Thelwell and co. also ‘remain keen’ on signing Pedro in this transfer window. They are ‘in talks’ to sign Chukwueze but a double swoop for the pair has not been ruled out

Watford have rejected a late bid from Everton for striker Joao Pedro, a report from Football Insider has revealed. A return to the Premier League has been heavily speculated about, but as tonight’s 23:00 deadline nears, the Brazilian starlet remains on the books at Vicarage Road. Now though, a new report from Football Insider has stated that the Hornets have received and rejected yet another bid for the striker. The details of the bid are not mentioned and it remains to be seen if the Toffees will come back with another offer to try and tempt the 20-year-old to Goodison Park before the window shuts later today.

Porto have rejected two late summer bids from Everton for young forward Goncalo Borges, according to O Jogo. The Portuguese newspaper reported on Thursday (1 September, page 3) that the Blues’ opening bid for the 21-year-old was worth £8.6million before a second proposal of £10.3million was submitted. However, it is understood that Porto have turned both down as they want £12.9million for the Portugal Under-21 international – just £2.6million more than what Everton have offered.

Everton are reportedly negotiating a deal for Villarreal forward, Samuel Chukwueze, with manager Frank Lampard seeking a new attacking recruit before the window closes. According to the Daily Mail, the Toffees are ‘in talks’ regarding a possible loan swoop for the Nigeria international, with the deal potentially set to include an option to buy fee of between £34.3m and £42.9m.

The report suggests that acquiring an additional forward is a top priority for the Merseysiders before Thursday’s deadline, with Watford starlet Joao Pedro also believed to be of interest to those at Goodison Park.

Chelsea have walked away from a deal to sign Everton winger Anthony Gordon, claims talkSPORT reporter Alex Crook. The 21-year-old was thought to be one player on the west London club’s radar ahead of tonight’s transfer deadline, but Crook says they did not want to pay more than £40m for him. Crook has told GIVEMESPORT that, as things stand, Gordon to Chelsea is off due to the Blues not wanting to pay more than £40m for the Everton star. Speaking to GMS, the journalist said: “Just a bit of information on that, I’ve been told that Chelsea didn’t value him any higher than 40 million, so they walked away.”

According to journalist Dean Jones, Everton could still lose their starlet winger Anthony Gordon before the deadline on Thursday night as his potential suitors have ‘one more trick up their sleeve’. Jones told the Ranks FC podcast: “I was told Chelsea still have one more trick up their sleeve, they want to still go for Gordon. And they’ve got one more trick that they’re going to try to get him into Chelsea, so we’ll wait and see what happens.

“I think the trick is probably more like offer [Armando] Broja on deadline day. I think that’s probably the trick.”

Fabrizio Romano has told Give Me Sport that the main difference in talks between Leeds and Tottenham over a move for Dan James is that Tottenham want to sign the Welshman on loan – while Leeds would prefer a permanent sale. This season, he is yet to score or create a goal in four appearances. Leeds could be willing to let him go before the end of the window. Tottenham and Everton are both being linked with a move. He has a contract at Leeds until June 2026.

Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal and Frank Lampard’s Everton have been linked with Mykhaylo Mudryk, but it seems that the Shakhtar Donetsk winger wants to move to Brentford instead. The Times have reported that Brentford have had efforts to sign Mudryk from Shakhtar turned down. Mudryk himself is ‘keen to join Brentford despite Shakhtar rejecting offers’, according to The Times.

Everton are in “ongoing” talks over signing another new forward to add to Frank Lampard’s squad on deadline day, according to the Daily Mail. The newspaper reported via their print edition on Thursday (1 September, page 74) that Watford’s Joao Pedro and Wolves’ Hwang Hee-chan are among those under discussion.

It is understood that Villarreal’s Samuel Chukwueze, Blackburn’s Ben Brereton Diaz and Chelsea’s Armando Broja are also on Everton’s radar as they eye last-minute recruitments to bolster their attack before the 11pm transfer deadline on Thursday night.

Football Insider also revealed on Tuesday (30 August) that the Toffees have told 32-year-old Venezuelan striker Salomon Rondon to find a new club before the transfer cut-off.

Everton, Leeds United, Newcastle United and Aston Villa have all been linked with Ben Brereton-Diaz. Fulham are said to have lodged a bid for Brereton-Diaz but Tomasson wants the 23-year-old to stay at the Lancashire outfit. Speaking to the Lancashire Telegraph, he said:

“Let’s wait and see, I hope so, Ben has great quality, works hard for the team”. “Hopefully he can stay and if not then we need a lot of money.”

Newcastle have been offered Leander Dendoncker amid claims that a late move from Wolverhampton Wanderers to Everton has now collapsed. The Magpies have enjoyed a productive window even if they haven’t been throwing money around as many anticipated. The Athletic report that Wolverhampton Wanderers midfielder Leander Dendoncker has been floated to Newcastle ahead of tonight’s deadline.

I predict we don't sign anyone named in that update, unless Rondon is released and we immediately re-sign him in a panic when all other targets have fallen through.
