It was always a very difficult job from the beginning, half of the fans were already up for his head from the beginning, and then those horrible run of injuries, and lack of available replacements, he tested multiple players , and they were as bad.
Norwich game is the only one since 5-6 months that whole squad was available..and it needs time to gel. It's DCL 2nd match , Richie came after a long gap, mina as well...and these three along with gray were our only better players...and all of them were out for majority of the season.
It's very easy to say why play keane, rondon, iwobi, coleman, mina , allan etc but they conviniently dont mention what were the available options ?
They say play 3 man mf, the fk that leaves you with Keane, coleman , Godfrey at the back? Just have a look at those defenders.
Then the board gave him 1.6 m to spend .
The main blame here lies here with the recruitment policy, the board of who appointed him at the first place having known majority of fans just hate him.
Any manager whom fans hate from the start will struggle as bad with this squad and horrible injuries.

Benitez problems are his own doing. Hes stubborn and arrogant and as such when things start spiraling out of control he doubled down on his stubbornness and arrogance.

We were one of the best sides in the league last season for defending and attacking set pieces. First thing he did was tear that up to instill zonal marking a system this side has proved doesnt work for us and carried on proving.

He played a two man midfield when no one plays that anymore, the only time he played 3 mam midfield was against arsenal and it worked then he dropped it again against Palace and we got destroyed.

He played coleman at left wingback when digne was on the bench. He intentionally put the team at a major disadvantage because he wanted to stroke his ego and "prove he's the boss", we lost that match.

The more the bad results start racking up the more he complicates things. No wonder keanes made so many mistakes this season he probably doesn't have a clue whats going on. When a team is doing poorly you go back to basics, not tapas tits he goes full on inception levels of complication and for as complicated as hes made it our whole strategy seems to be "get it to gray".

He is one of the worst manager this club has ever had and it was never going to work because aside from the fact he's been done as a manager since Ferguson broke him at Liverpool, his personality doesn't work at everton we get frustrated at stubbornness and we hate egos. We like a hard working, us against the world personalities with a bit of character.

We can't even sack a manager properly ffs. This will no doubt take until Monday now. They probably told him that it was basically over after yesterday's result but still felt the need to have him come in today and have some laughably prolonged discussion under the the misguided notion that they're doing things "the right way" (less then a week after they put out that embarrassing statement regarding Digne leaving) then officially announce his sacking early on Monday. Pure incompetence and self-indulgence masquerading as a dignified way of doing business. We're run by utter idiots.
Internally he’s a dead man but all legalities need sorting, it’ll be leaked to all media sources today then a statement put out tomorrow. It’s how every club operates, you see in the lower leagues managers getting sacked after weekend games but in nearly all cases it’s not made official with paperwork until the Monday

I hope at some stage we get the whole story of what has happened over the last six months.

Benitez' choices etc have done this to himself but can't help to think this group of players attitudes had a role to play as well.

Frustratingly we again have half a dozen players brought in for the vision of manager no longer here.

Is correct. That's why I said right from the start, he was not the man for us. He's a dinosaur stuck in what he was doing at the RS, Chelsea, Al Qaeda Utd and in Italy.

I will always maintain that he had a hideous run of luck with players missing, if the core team had stayed injury free through till Christmas then this could have been a very different situation. However he seems to have suffered a breakdown of sorts, playing Coleman as a left back, consistantly playing Rondon when he had offered nothing and playing 2 in midfield when clearly we were not up to it just made it impossible for him to stay.

Whether he had lost the dressing room early on and that meant Mina etc. did not want to play for him and thus played up injuries I guess we'll never know.

This is true. And it could almost be argued that it was the main factor. Unless you actually watched the style of play. The utterly pathetic one man press. The complete surrender of the ball. You don't need good players to press or organise a shape. We have invited every single team we have played on to us, with one or two exceptions, completely giving up possession, that's tactical and completely on him. It's also antiquated and has been punished as such. No sympathy here. He's just so outdated as a coach and many of us called it pre appointment. A relic of the game.

Not really.

Prem managers are officially sacked on weekends after games all the time. Watford, United and Norwich all made it official with statements on Sunday this season.

If they’re doing it there’s no reason they shouldn’t do it today.

Personally I just got the sense it was all spiralling one way. A cumulative poop storm basically.

Sacking Benitez maybe gives us a shot at stopping the rot. Opens a window and sprays air freshener in to allay the stench of rot.

Guarantees nothing, of course. There's an awful lot else wrong. But, the new incumbent gets fan goodwill and changes the mood. Amongst the fans you need Goodison behind manager and team.

Not to mention addressing the weird tactics and defensive errors.

Assuming we choose well. This last bit makes me very nervous.

Allardyce, for all his many faults, arguably did exactly what he was employed to do - we got what was promised and what we expected.

For that reason alone, I felt no anonymity towards him and I still don't. On the other hand, Benitez has took the club back towards rather than progressing us.

With arguably a better pedigree and a more able squad, we're spiralling towards the relegation zone, all while blaming others, and as such he's disliked.

This whole appointment will be a lasting stain on the club.

Of all the managers we've sacked allerdyce is ironically the only one who can say he was unfairly let go.

I'll be honest if we had kept him we'd probably be in a much better place as a club and probably gotten into Europe once or twice.

Allerdyces problem was the same as benitez though, he just couldn't shelve his ego and his stubbornness to stick to that terrible style of football even though we were safe then turn on the fans. Thats what got him the sack in the end.

What actually is happening now. Sacked seems to have turned to probably once a replacement is found.

Agreed about Keane. He's never been this bad or error prone and I've said before it'll be down to all the gobbledegook tactics Raffa spits at him, add his confidence issue, he's just gonna wobble.

Carlo dropped him last season when that happened.
