No, considering the step up is absolutely enormous.

I wouldn't say those 3 would be particularly close to a competent prem side either.

Branthwaite cant even get in the team though and hes far ahead of Welch

Reece Welch has clearly been earmarked as a player to develop. He’s been given an early pathway last season into the U23s , this season tried out at left centre back to expand his game, and on Monday he played Right CB and it was Astley who was switched to right back to accommodate Welch/ Branthwaite. 2nd half Welch went to left CB. And of course has trained with the first team. At 18 he’s behind Branthwaite in the pecking order, not ready for PL football yet but you’d have to say hes been given a good route so far .

Yeah Rafael and his team are now overlooking the academy. There is a lot of mess to sort out throughout the club.

Brands is trusting Rafael with the long term project.

What's the point of Brands then if Rafael is doing his job for him

Would be good for them to get a partnership going and then step up as 3rd and 4th choice as we offload some of the other centre backs.
