This in a nutshell tbh, Aston Villa don't feel he has done enough for them and they are mid table so why do people think he is good enough for us. No doubting he has some ability but half his problem is that he does'nt know what to do with it the majority of the time.
Barkley would need to really want to play for us, i mean like beg to come back, be prepared to take some serious stick and be confident (not arrogant) enough that he could win the fans back over with his performances.
He doesn't have the character, personality or ability to do any of those things.

Barkley - never in a gazillion years, he wasn't good enough often enough the first time round, he has gone backwards ever since.

A work colleague supports Villa and said that against us was the first time he had even tried since Christmas. Robbing a living.
Yeah another reason i can't stand him, always plays his heart out against us, absolutely desperate to score against us, just wish he'd had shown even half that effort when he played for" his boyhood club".

Absolute gobshite the lad, thick as pig muck as well.

He was definitely good enough for us though, he was part of a very good front three in moonheads first season. Agree he has regressed massively though ( probably because he's hardly played since he left us )

I think for both parties a Barkley reunion would be unpalatable. For us we would receive a developmentally stymied mercenary who possesses flawed decision making on and off the pitch and for him the inability to venture out to a night club without the possibility of being pummeled.

He also blew apart his hamstring and looks like he can't run since

Good article here that highlights the correlation - or lack of - between spending the most and (relative) success.

The few times our name is mentioned should be cautionary tales in themselves!!

This is just bad methodology. The causal relationship that we have reason to believe exists is net spend relative to peer clubs -> increase in points tally year over year. The fact that Tottenham tops the spend charts in the year they sold Bale should scream at you why spend -> winning the league is a bad relationship to test. Tottenham wasn't a serious contender to win the league, sold their best player and didn't even spend as much on transfers as they took in. In principle, they should not improve to win the league. They should get worse.

Chelsea had an already good side, buried their opponents in net spend, and finished 2nd -> 1st -> 1st. City had a mediocre side, substantially outspent their rivals, and got better year-over-year until they won the league.

Even then, you don't need to run the numbers to prove that high relative net spend =/= improvement. The Koeman/Walsh summer of 2017 is sufficient as an existence proof.

Can't argue with that

He completely shafted us. Rumours circulating while he was still here seemed to imply he had a bit of a chip on his shoulder about the club. As if he was owed something more from the club and the fans. Not very surprising given the bubbles that footballers live in these days.

Quite sad how it turned out with him. He seemed like he was going to be a world beater before that double leg break. I don't think he's ever fully recovered.

But yeah, definitely wouldn't welcome him back in any form. Would set an awful precedent on what's tolerated.

He seemed like he was going to be a world beater at the age of 15???

Yes Mikeh. He was 16 but let's not be tedious.

All reports about him were glowing. Cahill said he was the best young player he had ever seen. Neville said something similar as well. He was completely destroying youth football according to people who worked with him. It's not exactly a secret that so much was hoped for him.
