Have to be very careful with naming rights on a new stadium. What sponsor will touch Arsenal’s stadium now? When everyone will just keep calling it the Emirates anyway, same as the Etihad, Vitality stadium. We can see with Stoke how everyone calls the Bet365 stadium the Brittania. Spurs have screwed theirs with the Tottenham Hotspur stadium. I’d rather we just named it after the place it is and then any sponsor becomes an addition a bit like St James’ Park wasn’t ever really called the sports direct arena.

First naming rights comes with a premium for that reason.

But the market is very tough - even for brand spanking new ones - Tottenham and West Ham haven't been able to find anyone.
