The players get too comfortable and the standards would probably slip further than they already have. I honestly think as a fan base and club we are far too accepting of mediocrity. If Hodgson had become our manager he´d have been with us for 5 years and if Konchesky had signed for us he´d have got well over 100 appearances. The idea that backing the team unconditionally improves results isn´t really borne out when you look at the league table every year.

But do you really really think that how we treat the players makes a difference to their performance? In some cases there must be a big difference to their motivation.

Richarlison - he really embraces the fans' support, the handwashing song, for instance, but he looks like he's a fighter and a determined player anyway.
Gomes - this is a strange one, cos the club's social media also seems to favour him over other players, but we are also connected to him more than others.
Barkley - we had that big debate about whether cos we trashed him he got nervous and started playing crap cos he got abuse?

On the other hand look at the cult-crap players - Niasse, Straq in recent years ..

I'm sure 100% the players read comments and social media responses and are definitely positively affected if the fans love them, but if they are negative comments, how they react depends on their character. I think Barkley doesn't have that steel and bloody minded attitude to just succeed at all costs, whereas others get adversely affected. I'm hoping Holgate & DCL are tougher characters, and maybe Davies too. "We'll wear what we like but play well on the pitch"
It's more and more complicated now with social media but hopefully our players do feel well supported and they do understand that we will support them - as long as they are working hard and fighting for the club!

If they´re affected by comments on social media then they need to shipping off down the league to where they belong. Every single team above us in is no different, in fact it´s probably so much worse if you play for Chelsea etc. Whatever lack of affection Ross Barkley was shown at Everton, he is constantly vilified by Chelsea fans on Twitter.

Nice comments for Iwobi and Schneiderlin on Instagram wouldn´t turn them into world beaters. It just makes us look like mugs who happy clap whatever tosh we´re served up every week.

That's what I'm trying to say. they have to have the strength of character to get over social media comments - especially if it's only about their playing. Thank god we don't abuse players on their appearance, race etc.
I think you're right anyway. Hopefully players should also learn more that they are also public figures / celebrities and maybe they should either be totally private or like fully open, and embrace whatever comes their way.

It’s a post, nothing more than that. I struggled for 3 months on furlough, I’m only on min wage as is but I took no offence to him posting it as others didn’t because at the end of the day he’s just a lad spending his wages like any other person would

It’s why I never understand the crying about Davies and his fashion sense or DCL going on his jollies, they’re just being young lads

Tbh i dont think that many people have taken offence to it. Lets face it if they were ripping it up on the pitch this wouldnt even be a topic. But they're not. So it does throw up a little question mark of are they even arsed as it doesnt matter wether they perform or not. They have a contract that gives them silly money regardless what they do on the pitch.
Off topic maybe but i think the game has changed now. Not even years ago your top earners were usualy your top players. Those below had to perform to earn well(in relative terms to your average working person)
Now. I think your bang average player earns enough that if he chooses to put limited effort in they are not arsed. And this is very relevant to this club right now. Its been said many times already your likes of iwobi bernard sigudsson to name a few wouldnt be getting at other clubs what they are at Everton.
Repeating myself now but we are one soft touch bellied club who are allowing players to rinse this club and put in so many gutless performances.
Take the money if the club are stupid enough to pay you it. But if you are giving absolutely nothing in return on the pitch maybe think twice about posting you are getting on a private jet. I dont think for one minute he meant it but its a bit of a two finger salute given his annonymous displays.
But thats just me, and way i was brought up.

Social Media isn't the problem
Cretins that feel they are justified to troll are.
Mate, all the internet is is trolling, porn and bus timetables. Every time someone posts something publicly there's a very high chance they will be trolled as a result. Just watch, @orly or one of the other GOT trolls will be along shortly to troll this post.

Is he the lad who got arrested for taking a dump in a petrol station microwave?
