Goodison in the 1980s

The game I was on about earlier - it was all taking place while the game was being played during the first half! Quietened down a bit after half time by which time they had been largely chucked out!
But worked with a few United lads when I worked away. They thought they had took it to Everton at Goodison. Big laugh from me when they said it was in the main stand ha

This isn't footage of Everton away, but it does convey, better than anything else I've seen, the atmosphere and fashion at matches from post-skinhead (circa 1971) until, say, 1977/8 (and the rise of punk and then the neo-mods). It's also a great reminder of just how far you had to walk from the station in Leeds to the bloody ground:

Knew we had lads in the street end, park end, enclosure and paddock. United must have been after the main lads in the main stand ha
Everton had a few in there joe who ran the coaches had about 40 in there
In the seats that season
Are main crew at the time was in the paddock , they got took around the pitch to get out of the ground that day, as there were literally thousands outside waiting for them, nothing happened much after the game we couldn't get near them.
Took some bad hidings United those days , night game when lights went out and one tried to run at the St end nobody joined him:)
Biggest let down of a pitch invasion I have ever seen,
Gave himself up to the cops , unfortunately one of them was blackbeard.
Boxing day home game after the 3-0 cup game at there place they didn't want to come out, dont blame them thousands outside , coppers looked like they wanted them to get a hiding they did, a united fan I was talking to when I worked up there said ,that was the last time I went to goodison and I have no interests in ever going again.
Night game after they marched up by the side of the cemetery got as far as the st end school , ran back as they were hammered, came back with even more, same result , they did well in Langham st one year give them there due, but I only heard about that as I was off the scene.
Villa brought thousands early seventies think they beat us , andy Lockhead scored I think.
Not many used to come to goodison, united /city liverpool, even then the mancs never sold there full end, Chelsea / Spurs/ Arsenal used to have half decent following, but never more than say 1500
Arsenal surprisingly the best crew out of them in the eighties, others just stayed in the escort looking cool they at least tried to engage.
Spurs brought thousands in the cup one year in the parkend and top of the main stand.
West ham used to come up but numbers were up and down one year we broke through the police at half time under the parkend, most of the west ham left shortly after only about 10 of them stayed , we ended up talking to them as it would have been a bit of a snide thing to mob up on them, decent lads and loads of balls for not getting off.
Odd time Newcastle would come , but even they were down to 2 or 3 coaches one year for a Saturday game.
Odd cup came, Sunderland Forrest first game of the season, they did bring a few up a few times by coach , all in green flying jackets decent crew as well .nothing much else I dont blame away fans for not coming at all to be honest.
Saying that some times we didn't bring that many away.
Went to leeds one year there were only about 500 of us there.

That walk never seemed to end. Did it a few times in the 70s but switched to the coach in the 80s. Lot less scary ha. Funny though leeds never came near goodison in the 70s. Brought numbers in the 80s but usually on coaches

Forest first game of the season in 77 I think. Came up from the second division. Brought good numbers. After the game a couple of hundred started to walk back to lime street along Stanley park. Got near Anfield road and they backed up to the metal fence with evertonians in front of them, at the rear and at the side of them. That was the worst beating I ever saw at goodison. Police arrived after about 10 minutes and called buses up and got the forest fans on. What a Welcome back to the first division!!

Their is a famous picture of a United gang walking around goodison very early think.it is up by city road. Not an Everton fan in sight so must have been very early. It's all there top lad but quite a few looking back nervously. They comment that they went in the main stand with tickets then when n the match was on they stood up singing United and had a go at some blues. The main stand though ha. Saw United take some bad beatings at goodison 70s and 80s they even feared it themselves. United was a scarry place in the 70s. Better in the 80s for us. 13000 in the FA cup wad amazing. Walking all the way to Victoria without the police United were invisible
Do remember a few hundred of them in main stand they only started shouting near the end tho .think they were worried about shouting too early incase a few of the pensioners lamped them

Funny you saying that about that forest game I have always said the same.

I liked it in there as well.
That united game above I said are crew was in the paddock it should have been the enclosure .
Had some great times in there.
