I see a lot of votes for whoever pays the most, but I've seen a number of people say they didn't like having a gambling company as a sponsor.
If we had a choice of 3 companies, one very respectable but not offering a lot, one unrespectable but offering the most, and one in the middle, who would you prefer?

What's respectable can be subjective, but I think there is fairly widespread agreement that gambling companies are rather too disreputable for most peoples liking. A payday loan company would be another.

As it is we get a poor deal from a crap organisation, so improving it on one or both fronts should be achievable.

We are in a quandry, as there is no low-hanging fruit in this market, and I imagine if we didn't accept Sport Pesa's offer, then pickings at the same rate were pretty slim.

I don't accept though, that its gambling sponsorship or nothing, which seems to be the case for every club outside of the top six.

We have Ancelotti on board now and plenty of selling points to a potential sponsor, though as we are short on time for next season, its going to be USM/Megafon.

I would say the new sponsor is already agreed on and paperwork is signed off .
They would not bin off Sportspesa without a new sponsor lined up.
The fact DBB spoke about Sportspesa at the AGM and moving on from them leads me to believe this has been in the pipeline for a while

This would have been good

LOL at some of those.
seriously though, Megafon will only really do it if they're trying to make inroads into the UK market, right? or at least globally if they're available somewhere outside Russia?

It would be cool if we actually had a brand which people either knew or was a proper big company for a change. Chang was fine but I understand quite a small sponsorship?
What do you think about this - it's interesting that the 'top 6' have brand / shirt sponsors which seem to be 'bigger' more famous or more mainstream brands, like banks, airlines etc, and then outside the top 6 they are all largely betting companies or unknowns (apart from American Express). It would be also nice if it was something like Jaguar Land Rover. Equally it would be nice to have a nicer kit and training gear - even though our Nike one was simple, it was great having Nike training gear, and it would be great to go to Nike, UnderArmour .

If it's Megafon or USM, I hope the club knows what it's doing regarding FFP, and we don't get caught out for what is actually Usmanov channeling money in via a sponsorship.

I'd rather not have anything USM-related on the shirt.

It would just mean that we are becoming lazy in sourcing outside sponsorship at a time when we have to be much more effective in generating revenue organically and provide legroom for FFP.

Abramovich has never gone along with providing direct or indirect sponsorship at Chelsea if I'm correct, though he has done wih Russian clubs in the same sort of way USM now do with us.

Clearly we are not attractive and/or prominent enough to attract real "brand" sponsorship as I think in that market, the companies are bold enough to make the first move and not wait to be asked.

I would just like to have a sponsor with at least some brand recognition and/or quality and reputation.

But it wouldn't be difficult to improve on Sports Pesa, I do hope a gambling sponsorship ban is enforced in the near future.

I thought it was very interesting to read recently that BP, despite making overtures, couldn't find clubs to sponsor. I'm not sure in what countries/sports markets, but I found that remarkable. There may be questions regarding sustainability and climate change that would raise eyebrows, but I would have no problem whatsoever with BP on the shirt.

I also agree that a USM / Megafon sponsorship might be a little lazy, considering that if Usmanov is putting in money anyway, why not go outside, cos we can surely. Looking at the stats published we are getting the 7th most money from shirt sponsorship, but £15m less than Spurs. Surely we should e able to go to £15m or £20 m a year/
\Posted before it would nice to find a company that is good on ethics etc, but that must be hard nowadays, but at least something that isn't obviously known to be harmful or facing bad press at the moment, which means maybe Amazon, Bp would be tricky for us now.

Can't see it being USM as why bother advertising a holding company with no product? The FF sponsorship probably raises enough eyebrows anyway. It could be one of the companies under the USM umbrella who have stuff or services to sell to folk though.

I mentioned on here last night that I’m sure it wil be one of usmanov’s companies. However you are indeed correct, in the light of what has happened at city, the club needs to ensure that what you suggest isn’t deemed the same by the premier league.
