2019/20 Jordan Pickford

Had it too comfortable for too long, no competition whatsoever. He'll never dominate his box and his shot stopping saves him at times. However the mistakes and rashness is becoming a regular occurrence now. Any decent bid for him £40-£60mill should be considered. Be all over that Ryan at Brighton if/when he goes.
There it is again.
I understand wanting £40-60m but other clubs have him sussed.
It's an issue of personality and judgement. If it was technique it would have been coached out of him by now.
A more junior club might take a punt but tops £20m

A lesson to be learnt; never buy a keeper from a team with a poor defence; they have to make more saves and therefore look better than they are. Mingolet and Pickford looked good at Sunderland cos they got plenty of practice stopping shots, neither are good all round keepers like Big Nev or Ray Clenemce.

he dives behind his own line ffs which ultimately cost us the 2nd goal, If he doesn't dive behind his line he grabs the shot on the line.

He dives to make a save. The shot is blocked.

He falls down from the dive. It can't really be helped.

The main issue was him letting it through at the near post.

But, that comes from Davies/Holgate/Mina not doing their job and then it boils down to Delph and Davies combining to give away the free-kick.

Makes sense, although I think you are making a big assumption suggesting he will start in the summer. Henderson for me

On current performance I'd agree but I can't see Southgate switching keepers this close to a tournament. He's all about the collective and I think he will try and maintain continuity at least until the end of the Euro's.

That may give us a window of opportunity to get shut at an acceptable price. International football doesn't expose Pickford in the same way English football does. Although thoughts of 40-60m seen fantastical to me. Anyone spending that sum will presumably devote 30 seconds to looking at the PL keepers performance stats: https://fbref.com/en/comps/9/keepers/Premier-League-Stats

So the FFP is approach I would take plus they can make something up about Carlo wanting a particular keeper because of x reason which has nothing to do with Pickford being unreliable and Everton wanting rid.

yes he makes a dive in anticipation for the shot that is fair but why is he jumping two yards behind his line to do it? Them two yards is what ultimately cost him.

Who cares who Southgate picks in goal? Who has 30 seconds to waste looking at garbage stats about who runs faster on one leg and never scores on a Thursday?

Ok lets be sensible here with that goal, he covers his near post and it smashes off the post, he regains composure and is alert for the shot that a defender heads, he is then trying to regain composure for a third time and the speed of what was happening didn't allow him too. I cannot believe that anyone can blame him. Look at the still.
What is Davies doing. Why are both CB on the floor. Why is the RB on the edge of the area. Why do Newcastle have more players in the 6 yard box than us. Now I have broke it all down, I reckon he would only be 4th or 5th in line of who was to blame. Delph messed up the kick off. Davies gave away a free kick then ducks the ball, two CB on the ground off the pitch and marking everywhere. The speed of it, hows the bloke supposed to have a chance here

Not Gona blame Pickford for that goal it was a total team mess up. First goal though they put a player on Pickford at the corner. He flaps at the ball and it's in the net. Happens time and time again

First season he won all the dixie awards with a terrible defence so I’m afraid the defence was already bad before that. We blamed Joel, we’ve blamed Howard before that. This season and last season for me has been the defence we haven’t got a leader and that comes with pickford aswell. To say he’s the main problem is a bit of joke to be honest. Can you say Coleman has been good? No, can you say mina? No, can you Keane? No, can you say digne? No, can you say sidibe? No, holgate has improved but has he been outstanding probably not. But no, we’ll see it’s pickfords fault as he’s done a few mistakes. Like everyone does in a team. I get it’s a specialist position, but the amount of mistakes positionally and defensively that back four has done this season goes unnoticed as we as fans are to hung up on pinning the blame on one player. I’m not a fan of that. The leaders of that team are supposed to be Coleman, gylfi and digne? 2 of which are defenders who haven’t been good enough. Defenders who are meant to lead and defend? Get my point. The defence as a collective have not been good enough. It doesn’t start and stop with one person. Give your head a shake. Pickford has kept us in a few games and kept the score down on numerous occasions. I’m not gonna hammer him, can he do better? Yes certainly? Can others around him? Yes most definitely. Stop crucifying one player. It’s beggars belief it really is.

Give my head a shake?

He caught the ball 2 yards behind the line.

Call the defenders for their flaws by all means, but 1 key component of any defence is a communication and an understanding with the goalkeeper, who also should have the job of marshaling, instructing his defence. He doesn't do this. He just shouts at them when something goes wrong, even if it's his mistake. His distribution is atrocious and invites tons of pressure on us. His in game management is poor, his temperament is poor, his positioning is poor. His ego, his mouth, his immaturity, his personality, all red flags for me of someone who believes they are far better than their actual performances suggest.

A top goalkeeper should be a calming influence on the defence and the team in general. He is often the antithesis of this, and the occasional good save he makes belies his true, unreliable, erratic nature.

The defence you criticise restricted Newcastle to 0 zero shots on target for 93 minutes yesterday, and looked to be closing out the game effectively.

Enter Jordan.

He's nearly 26 years old, he's not a teenager learning his trade. I'm tired of losing points because he loses his head. 195 PL goals conceded in less than 5 full years. He is not the top Goalkeeper some people seem to think he is.

delph gifting the ball straight back to them from the kick off was odd
Sure was. Fee stupid things. Davies and digne messing around with the ball which led to the corner. Delph kicks that ball up field showed no intelligence. Pickford dosnt seem to be learning from his mistakes us the worrying. Every team.will.be putting a player in front of him at corners. He hasn't got the reach and if the ball comes close he just flaps at it.
