Played a brilliant innings but threw his wicket away when he should have had the mentality to take the game fully away from India.

Bethell and Smith both played really poorly.
They are good white ball players used to a run chase but couldn't score a run. They both put enormous pressure first onto Root and then the lower order.

The occasion looked too big for them. Have to say that's a concern before they head to the Gabba, Perth, 90k people at the MCG etc.

This team are entertainers but still have to prove they are winners

For me...I would rather have an entertaining match, I like England to win...but cricket is different for me than football...I find it more relaxing and less gutting than when everton lose, but different for everyone

Oh I agree 100%. But you still want to win especially going into an Ashes.

They should have won here. The questions on winning v entertaining will continue until they win a big series.

England threw it away, but certainly didn’t deserve a 3-1 series win. Questionable umpiring this morning though and (just like your loveable neighbours) it does seem to matter more to them.
