Should Everton have done more in the transfer market by now?

I think it's a bit mad that we haven't got another winger in yet. But, other than that, we're where I expected us to be. We need 2 more in in the next 2 weeks in my opinion. That gives us a squad that should be able to start the season competitively without throwing games, and we can then bring in the additions we need at the traditional Everton glacial pace.

No. Not at all. My issue has always been that I am unimpressed with Moyes' transfer record since he left us, so am nervous about him being given total control. I don't think he has been given total control with the transfer committee and the players we've brought in thus far are decent additions. I'm also not Moyes' biggest fan, but have acknowledged that he does generally improve players (bar strikers) through actual coaching - something we've not had for a long time. And is too savvy to get embroiled in a relegation scrap.

I think we've been fortunate (others may differ) that Doucoure,Young and Calvert-Lewin have turned down contracts or discussions. So we've been saved from that problem. Characterise me however you want, but we are on a par with what I expected and I think we should be aiming for the top half this season.

If we don't get players in, that would be a different issue.

Mate, I just wouldn't on here. You'll get called all sorts.

Anyway, transfers, gonna be a long old wait till the season starts and I don't think we'll do our recruitment until late in the window.

Between a rock and a hard place as a club.
Compared to the last few seasons we're relatively fluid and as such are trying for the better and more expensive players. They obviously think we're too much of a risk still, so are swerving us. Whereas those less gifted players we're used to hunting are finding clubs.
So yes, I would have liked at the very least another above average player.

Think you summed it up perfectly.

We are going for quality players who are seeing new owners/ground and going yeah thats good.

But going you have no Europe and have not finished in top the half in 5 years thats bad

So they are likely considering us but also waiting to see if they get a better offer.

Although i feel if you can get one quality player through the door be easier to convince others.

Sadly it’s where we are right now but hopefully in future summers Everton becomes an easier sell.

Tricky one, as in one way we have cash to spend and don't have to wait to ship players out first, so you could say we should have done more by now.
On the other hand, we have so many positions to fill against whatever budget we have been given.
We may be struggling to juggle the quality and quantity of players against the funds we have. (As well as convince the players we are after that we are the team for them.)
Personally, I'd have been far more chilled about the situation if we had already bought a very good right winger.

I don’t particularly mind being more deliberate in making sure we sign the right players we just freed up a considerable amount in the wage bill on overpaid underperforming players so it’d be foolish to rush in and make the same mistakes, I’m confident we will make some signings of course it’s ideal to have them earlier but for our purposes I’d rather be thorough than speedy if I had to choose

I'd have thought that any team planning to make a good start will have had signings lines up and negotiations made, long before the transfer window slammed open, and signed shortly after. This way they'd have all preseason to integrate and form understandings with team mates.

Makes sense yeah? But we're glacial last-minute-if-at-all Everton. It seems the slamming open of the tranny window is always a surprise.

Just looked at Transfermarkt and outside the “big 6” who seem to play by different rules and the promoted teams then we have spend the same as most other clubs so far. Brighton have spent a bit more than the rest.

Still frustrating that we haven’t gotten more through the door but these are the clubs that we are competing with and they’re in a similar situation

Generally the results early in the season bear out your argument. Last minute additions should be the icing on the cake imho.

There will be a lot going on behind closed doors door and very few leaks anymore, don’t think anyone knew about Hill Dickinson before it was announced, Barry was mentioned during the 21 tourney and was signed within days of France being knocked out.

We signed Charley within days of the season ending(remember Gomez taking nearly 2 months) we also had a RB till he changed him mind last minute which happens.
Back up Goalie done within days, no 5/6/7 day medical.

Gana signing a new contract, Keane staying as 4th choice and a huge one in JB signing a extension on his contract meaning he here this season

I fully expect 2-3 in the 2 weeks, plates will be spinning and deals will be getting done.

Normal Everton would have bought no one, no Charley no Barry and JB will be up for auction and sold before we buy a load of rubbish players

Please may your scenario come to fruition.
