Match Thread Blackburn 1-0 Everton. Sat July 19th 3pm.

Well what a difference a few days makes!

I had Heath & Clarke as the second coming following their cameos against Accrington, then back to reality following an increase in opposition quality versus Blackburn.

It tells you that they’re probably at League Two / League One level currently, but would struggle in the Championship. Probably a good indicator should they be looking at loans this summer.

I still have high hopes for both but it’ll probably be a couple of seasons before we see them coming off the bench in the Prem.

….steady on, I think Clarke is still 16 and hasn’t even signed a pro contract yet. The fact he’s involved in pre-season is an achievement, he’s not even a regular U21 player.

Don’t be giving these youngsters ‘labels’ regarding what level they’ll play, let’s see how they progress this season in the Academy.

Definitely! It was more a comment on how I jumped the gun after their fantastic displays against Accrington only to be reminded of that inconsistency which comes with youth players just a couple of days later.

Genuinely exciting talents, both of them.

All I will say is that Moyes is getting more leeway this season than Dyche did last.

Dyche said pre season friendliest were not about tactics and got blasted for it. Not sure we have seen any different vs Accrington or Blackburn so far but Moyes isn’t getting the same level of hate.

Dyche is still awful as a manager though in my opinion

How much of this is down to Moyes' previous regime with us? Dyche's finishes with us were 17th, 15th and then he left us in 16th. It's understandable if some are prepared to give Moyes more latitude. It's like going back to a woman/man you know is "capable" - it's before the watershed

There’s a difference though. We played bleeding Sligo rovers to start before then playing league 2 opposition.

This time we started with league 2 and then jumped to championship.

I don’t mean any offence to Sligo, but they were expected to be like ATV Irdning and be a rout and we were losing to them until the 84th minute. It was appalling, even if just for fitness.

Moyes also gets leeway because he just got us 31 points from half a season and saved us from relegation. Whilst also not talking us down every chance he gets.

Didn't watch because I was out and about yesterday...

...are we gonna get relegated then lads?

In all seriousness though - a reminder that it was around this time last year that Coventry beat us 3-0...

Yeah we are. All because of Patterson playing allright in a meaningless friendly.
