Summer Transfer Window 2025 Thread

In the modern era, your only as good as your recruitment teams, which are now huge compared to years ago. It’s hard to compare the signings made at West Ham, as while Moyes will have signed off on a lot of them, their technical director / head of recruitment fella got lashed in the bin with the Raggy dolls. We have an actual data company on board now, a fresh recruitment strategy from top to bottom and let’s not forget, Moyes is also out there on his holidays watching certain players in the flesh too. This doesn’t mean every signing will turn out top notch as there are so many caveats, particularly with foreign players. I couldn’t care less what was done at West Ham, they are a different club who had different needs. Im
Optimistic that Moyes will bring in more players of quality than those who fall short.

Isn't this the same with every manager ever?

No, which is why some do this;

I can see Moyes buying zouma, Bowen, Soucek, Ings, Alvarez and taking a punt on Phillips for example which apart for Phillips were decent to great signings but I can’t see Moyes buying scamacca or ward prouse for example

By and large but depends also on owners and how the DoF operates.

For example moshiri one million percent threw players at managers here over the years. Over at west ham the DoF under Moyes and another manager basically no longer communicated and the relationship broke down. In that case I'm betting most of the signings there are gonna be on the DoF - both good and bad

You also get the likes of Ancelotti saying he hadn't heard of Godfrey etc, Lampard wasn't making the transfers at Chelsea - but the type of person Moyes is - it just doesn't happen with him.

That's not a U-turn?

I said, in my opinion, no manager will have a player signed he's not provisionally approved of. I can't prove if this does nor doesn't happen, but you seem sure when it happens and when it doesn't for Moyes.

You went from saying every manager ever will approve signings, before then immediately saying we can't prove Moyes had never had a transfer without his approval.

In my view, there's some instances - examples I give - of when a manager has no input, but that won't be Moyes. Moyes doesnt just smile an wave when West Ham are paying £30m for the likes of Scamacca.

He's as old school/hands on as they come.
