Summer Transfer Window 2025 Thread

That’s just bull, I listed to a podcast with a West Ham journalist, who said they didn’t see eye to eye, the dof wanted mainly younger players, Moyes wanted older players and prem experience was also a big thing to Moyes.
Ward prowe 30mi, vlasic 30, zouma 35, another CB who cost 30 and was like on loan 12 months later. 45 Haller, 35, scammaca. To name a few, he spent about 500mil and wasted 300 of it
Still gave them probably the most successful period in their history , and their first silverware in ages.

Zouma was a good signing, and they recouped about £45 million on Haller and Scamacca. Vlasic was also sold to Torino for a decent fee. He didn't waste 300 million, don't be ridiculous. He made a few big signings that didn't work, but they werent complete duds like Tosun, Gbamin etc, hence them getting decent chunks of money back on them. Areola, Coufal, Soucek, Bowen, Paqueta, Kudus, Zouma, Emerson were all very good pieces of business. Ward Prowse was probably slightly overpaid for but then he will be playing PL footy under Potter next season, so again, hardly a complete dud.
Zouma cost 35 mil and played 80 games in 4yrs and has left on a free at the age of 30, that’s not a good signing
they lost 27mil on Haller, 15mil on vlasic and 10mil on scammaca.

Bit off topic, but what happened with the MGW and Tottenham thing, did he move in the end?

No. Still a suggestion of legal challenges in the background but in other reports they still expect it to be done.

Every transfer window necessitates at least one drawn out saga and many more will he won't he? stories. for other players for the majority of clubs.

We aren't ever the only club where resolutions seem slow even when they are not in reality.

What's the fact he left on a free got to do with anything? He's a good player and performed well for them.

I will believe what I want. That being that the notion he wasted 300 million is complete and utter drivel. I mean his outlay was closer to £400m than £500m for a start.

Oh and Zouma played 103 games for them, not 80, and he was placed on the transfer list because he only had a year left on his contract. After spending the previous season as captain. He was placed on the transfer list after Moyes left too.

Well then we move on to the next on the list. Serious clubs don’t wait around for players to decide their transfer business, what a terrible strategy that would be.
I agree it would be a terrible strategy if we didnt move on after a few weeks, but I don’t agree that hanging on for our first choices would be a mistake, provided we did have other options we could turn to if the first choice procrastinated for too long. Its all opinions of course, but I do believe getting the ones who were identified as the best fit / highest quality available to us would require a club with our (sadly) lowered profile to wait around a bit.

I also don’t understand this narrative that top targets are more likely to become available later in the window. When has this ever been the case?

The closer we get to the deadline the much greater the chances of Lindstrom or Harrison rocking back up. People just want to talk themselves into believing otherwise.

Yeah I don’t think I’ve ever got to deadline day with a weak squad and thought ‘this is great news, all our top targets must be coming in’.
