2024/25 David Moyes

I believe Moyes is a good coach but when it comes to buying players he is so slow, and the saying dithering Moyes is very true and always has been, Kenwright allowed him all the freedom he wanted, in fact I believe he ran the whole club and at the moment he seems to be doing the same with the new owners. Just my opinion before I get all the brick bat.

Moyes reveals how many you're getting in.

He doesn't buy the players???

Maybe on transfer deadline day, after selling our best player to give him much needed funds. Moyes does seem to take his time deciding on signing a player, best example when he took over at United and made his big play in the transfer market to take Felli and Baines.

Right. TFG would have bought Douglas Luiz, Kubo, McAtee, Delap, Bakayoko and Doak, but dithering Dave said no, I don't need them, let's dither a bit.

I’ve got no issue with wanting very good players but we can’t compete for highly coveted players yet. We need to box clever in the market. Gems are all over the place.

I am not saying we are doing it this time, but we also have form for this, where we go for players who quite frankly were never going to join us and we waste our time on them. Hopefully new regime, new ways of working with time limits imposed. I love ambition, but it’s got to be sensible and limited in terms of time it takes.

The only other thing I would say is that Moyes said we wouldn’t achieve everything in one window, but I think people have forgotten that. They will look at constant progress (depending on PSR and budget) over the next three to four windows in terms of the first team, just not this one alone.

The issue isn't Moyes.

Its that the players he wants are very good and they have many suitors.
For sure, this. Right now we don’t have a lot of leverage either. The top clubs can throw out more money and a promise of Europe. Until we consistently finish top 10 or better, the lure of playing at BMD won’t be enough. It’s why Delap chose Chelsea.

Winning brings money. Money brings better players like a magnet. The top clubs boosted their ranks right out of the gate when the window opened because they have deep pockets. We have some money that we have to somehow spread out over 10 players to fill all the holes.

It’ll take time and we’re getting there. I believe when we’re a top 5 club again and again, we’ll scoop up who we want quickly. Just not yet. So it takes weeks to yield Barry and a backup keeper. Signing Branners to a long-term contract is actually a huge move. It’s what big clubs do. I’m glad we did it.

Convincing players to come here because of our history and a new stadium carries little weight with them. For a lot of these younger players all they’ve known of Everton in their life time is struggle and relegation battles. Until we can offer more than promises and hope, it’ll feel like it does now. It’s about winning, righting the ship, stacking winning seasons, and playing Europe.

Have these two pre season games been Moyes simply asking the players for minutes in the tank, or have these players reverted to type after their usual new manager bounce and expect everything to happen for them with out the graft?

These are the questions that demand answers from the GoT society.
