I liked the inclusion of the caveat "could". That looks similar to the Urushi dial one I've had a hardon for, for over a year.

That's what a watch is about, you. As far as I'm aware the Presage line is still assembled in Japan so it's a solid choice. Not that other Seiko's aren't but if you want to "keep it Seiko" (endless online debate on true Japanese vs other Asian market assembled Seiko's) then it's the ticket.

We’re coming up on three years since the launch of the Bel Canto.

I haven’t heard tales of reliability issues - but in the next couple of years we will hear how servicing goes, as that will need to go back to CW.

I’d expect a smaller proportion of their other watches tend to be serviced directly by CW.

And that's from experience: I bought one. Only £900 I wanted a mechanical watch.

Initially the 'ticking' was eratic: each minute the 'tick' would gradually fade and then pick up. Metronomically.
It transpired that the second hand was brushing against another as it swept around. It became less precise and eventually stopped.
It took Christopher Ward 12 weeks to fix under warranty.

Within 6 months, another fault.
This time the watch stopped when it was upside down, yet worked when upright and not worn. I understand that has something to do with the balance spring or something (pivot or jewel or other).
It cost me £250 to repair at Timpsons.
My advice is buy quality or, as I do now, buy a £25 Lorus or £10 Casio. Both available at Argos and fabulous.

You must have been massively unlucky. But then a company is only as good as how it performs when the client has a problem. I've by and large been lucky with watches. I've got two Seiko's running well that have never even been serviced that I bought in the mid 70s.

A very solid choice, will serve you well with little to no upkeep.

Want a genuine opinion on why it should be swerved? Not too much wrong with it but a 39mm would be a little small for me.
