Summer Transfer Window 2025 Thread

I think it's going to take a couple of seasons to change how people view the club.

The Tete situation definitely highlighted this

I think we were just convenient there, to get him the deal he wanted at Fulham.

I don't think there will be many problems in attracting younger players, with potential. The only real constraint is budgetary. You will have guys like Delap, and they want the big club, leave it to them.

With more established players then it's going to be a struggle. It doesn't mean we shouldn't throw our hat in the ring though.

It would be great to get just one of what I'd consider a bit of glamour for us - Luiz or Kubo for example. Some players will be receptive to hearing a clubs case and what their ambitions are. They might appreciate being a bigger fish, being courted, and probably on parity with the highest earner, or better. 90% that won't work, but it just might work when time and place is right.

Villa were able to attract decent players before they qualified for the UCL.

CL footie and Ten Haag has pedigree with Ajax doesn’t he.
Ten Haag’s reputation has been pretty badly soiled, plus Leverkusen have sold some class players and bought Quansah.

I don’t doubt they’re a better prospect than us at this very moment but I think that air of them being on the rise has dissipated, and a lot of players turn down lower level CL teams (in as much as they’re unlikely to challenge for the cup) for that filthy PL money.

I’m choosing optimism on this one.

Tete is an example though, players like him should be looking at our interest and seeing it as an opportunity, not “oh Everton want me, I can go there if Fulham (FULHAM) don’t want to keep me”.

Nah that was 100% just a ploy to get a bigger contract offer from Fulham. Saw it plain as day as soon as he was linked to us.

I remember an interview a few years ago with super agent Jonathan Barnett who truly was a chase the money guy at heart. Even he talked about how often player perspectives change as they grow older and more settled. When they are younger in the full flush of ambition it is money and the chance to win trophies. Later that can be balanced by wanting a stable life. Good agents understand this and give their players options.

Tete is an example of a valued but journeyman PL guy who will never be a star but with a wife and kids settled in London with friends and school all in place. His agent gave him a choice of more money with us and leveraged Fulham closer to our offer giving the player an improved option to stay. Tete chose family stability. Most of us should be able to relate to that.

If we were closer to reaching Europe or winning trophies he might have chosen differently. We have to take steps forward on the pitch to improve our attractiveness but to do that we need to attract players. Easier to do that with championship or overseas players seeking their foothold in the PL than with PL pros with stable and settled domestic situations.

Not while Moyes is in charge, might get him in by Christmas.

To the tune of Mistletoe and Wine:

Moyesy time, no signings in sight,
Everton waiting till Christmas night
Wingers and strikers stuck in the queue,
“Bid’s on the table” — but nothing comes through

Talks drag on for weeks and weeks,
Fans refreshing news and leaks
“Medical soon” — but don’t hold your breath,
They’ll sign him in snow, or not at all yet
