Currently in Chongqing, China. Absolutely mad city, you think you're on the ground floor then realise you're actually 10 stories up. Lifts all over the place. No idea how that built this place but it's great, and absolutely beautiful at night. Food is spicy seeing as Chongqing is in the schezuan part of China, so lots of hotpot and noodles with chili and sesame oil and numbing peppercorns.

I absolutely love China. It's amazing just how far ahead of the US they are.

Booking flights is a nightmare these days. Basic price of the flight doesn't really mean anything unless you get on the flight carrying absolutely nothing except the clothes you have on. Once you add in hand luggage, checked luggage selecting a seat etc. etc. it soon adds up. Then there is myriad of different options that you need a PhD in mathematics to figure out the most cost effective option to choose whether it is economy, economy plus etc. etc.
Yup. I'm well versed in having to how to get to various places in Europe and I don't think there's actually much in it amongst the budget airlines. Sad act that I am I compared the cost of Ryanair vs Jet2, Wizz vs Jet2, and KLM vs Easyjet on destinations each airline flies to.

Once you've added comparable luggage with Wizz, Ryanair and Easyjet they actually came out slightly more expensive than the upfront costs of KLM and Jet2 (they both include 8-10kg small suitcase sized hand luggage and a small bag as standard).

Flight times and customer service usually win the business for me. Wizzair and Ryanair can suck my balls.

Skyscanner is annoying in that it'll find the cheapest flight tickets but not the cheapest package. As you mention, it doesn't show what I'd consider to be the real cost of the flight. Even on long-haul, I flew from LHR to Singapore with FinnAir back in May, I was lucky because I only went for the week and a carry-on bag was included in the price, but it would've been an extra £100 if I needed to check baggage.

Within Europe this should be changing if proposed EU rulings comeinto effect. No doubt the airlines will find a new wheeze to exploit gaps in the rules to gouge consumers. Its environmentally ruinous and mass tourism is a double edged sword, now starting to hammer rather enrich local populations in many destinations.

I'd just rather the upfront price be provided. Flying probably really shouldn't be cheap.

Here, I'm tempted to say that it shouldn't be cheaper for someone living in the Midlands to go and enjoy a weekend in Budapest than a weekend in London.

Very true. Its a difficult one, I love travelling and the other half's family are right over the other side of the continent. But increasingly I'm considering longer vacations and travelling by train or driving.

I'd love to do another interrrail trip, I've not done so since I had just finished uni, but this time with a first class ticket lol but I'd probably need at least 3 weeks off work to make it count.
