People are still acting like we have a defence of Holgate, Godfrey and Keane with a never fit Mina and someone like Dyche or Lampard as manager.

We near enough just changed the manager half way through last season, and we found ourselves in and around Europe qualifying form whilst beating premier league stalwarts like Newcastle, Forest and Fulham on the road.

Nobody knows what the future holds, which is one of the reasons why bookies make a fortune, but if you think qualifiying for Europe next season is so far fetched that it should be dismissed then you haven’t being paying attention to the fluctuations in league tables since… well… forever actually!

A lot of new faces to integrate hopefully but we have a solid defence so would hope to make the top of the bottom half or the bottom of the top half.

Feels very different to the start of the Moshiri era. No panic buying and nailing down contracts with "must keep" players.
All whilst having a massive cull of deadwood.
For a first season in the new era i'd like us to at least emulate Brighton.
Which i don't think is unrealistic as a target.

We will need a good 2 or 3 years of repeating the last two seasons of midtable finishes before we can even think of qualifying for Europe.

That’s the way football works. It’s like a career progression, you have to wait your turn and work your way up the ranks. You can’t just overtake Premier League stalwarts like Forest, Villa and Newcastle in one season.

First we have to overtake the major mid-table finishers like Brentford, Brighton and Bournemouth, which is no mean feat, these clubs have been holding down these positions for decades, centuries even. So it will take at least two years to overtake them.

Then, and only then, will we be able to even think about battling it out with the likes of Forest for a European place.
Forest went from 17th to 7th and should really have finished higher

Moyes took West Ham from 17th to 6th/7th in his first full season

Europe definitely shouldn't be seen as unrealistic, the margins in the league are small and it's not that big a step to get into that mix. I do think we need to be careful no to extrapolate too much from the end of last season though. There's been a lot of 'if Moyes had been in charge all season' type chat but I don't think it's quite that simple. Form is very much a thing, you can have good runs and bad runs without it necessarily being indicative of what you'll do over a full season.

Exactly, and this type of thing has happened so often that it’s nowhere near some kind of anomaly. It happens year in year out, in both a positive sense with a move up the league, or negatively, where a club that finished in the top half the previous season ends up getting relegated.

The likes of Villa, Newcastle and Forest have all come from the championship within the last six years, and all three of them went from relegation battlers to European qualifiers within 12 months following a change of management.

Leicester City went from a relegation battle to winning the league within 12 months, and then they were relegated in 22/23 having finished 8th the previous season. Moyes took us from 17th to 4th within 12 months during 04/05!

We aren’t going to be subjected to half a season of Dycheball next season. Our centre halves are no longer Holgate and Godfrey. We no longer have Rondon or Maupay upfront with a permacrocked DCL on the sidelines!

It depends on health. Everyone stays healthy, the defense puts in a similar shift next season and our offense shows the same potential it did without Doucore, we have a realistic shot to land wherever. We get some more transfer targets in and that number rises. That is why this summer is so important. Can't be caught lacking.
