Summer Transfer Window 2025 Thread

We did start negotiating for Barry pre July. Joyce ran a story that we were in for him on June 13 and it was the 7th June when Matteo Moretto mentioned it as well.

Not forgetting that we were trying to sign Tete in June as well
Delap as well, with the negotiated "option" of 30 millions for Broja going pear shaped.

Just keeping the price high on Tete and Delap helps, save them going for a song.

It's all part and parcel of it.

I refer to the bold in one of your other posts quoted below. This is exactly what’s happened with Barry. Negotiations in June with club and player. He goes on his break. Comes back and signs as soon as he can.
How are you now using this as a stick to beat the club with?

When you take out his holiday it’s been 3 weeks since that Matteo fella broke the story. I’m happy with that considering the negotiations got us a saving of approx. £8m that we can use elsewhere. In your world we should have just lashed the €42m at Villarreal and had him sewn up before he went on holiday. He’d still only be joining the club this week for pre-season anyway. Which would have meant an increased transfer fee and 2-3weeks worth of wages for nothing.
I refer to the fact that despite contact and all that being made earlier, we've still not finished the transfer. Or any transfer, in fact.

We can make the transfer with his contract starting from 1st of July (like most teams do), and still negotiate the price. Never said we should've lashed 42 mil so that's just flat made up, I'm saying other teams have already gotten their players while we've not yet, and even when we do - it's one out of the (at least) 5-6 we need. If we can only focus on one player at any given time and negotiate for a month or more, we're in for another painful transfer summer and season ahead where we're hoping for a squad of players to never get injured.

And yes, this is a stick to beat the club with, as it was supposedly a new start, we'd show more prowess, more directness, yet we've re-signed one of our worst CBs in the last 15 years or so and 164 year old Gueye. The only coup we've had so far (and it's a great one, mind) that shows any kind of strength, was Branthwaite's new contract - the rest is literal "little ol' Everton", sorry. A long summer ahead to prove me wrong, but the start is 90% the exact same as it's been for decades.

E: the others we're linked with currently are players like Jack Harrison, to further inspire confidence in the dealings.

For all intents and purposes we were a whisker away from Tete and not far off signing Delap. We were deep in discussions early after the season for 2 players. Missing out on those two makes the recruitment team start work on their secondary targets. One of which is Barry. Not to mention we had another CB lined up and were ready to pull the trigger but Moyes said no and thought it was better to offer Keane a new deal (rightly or wrongly). So again that’s another we had done a load of work on that didn’t materialise.

Another thing to factor in is that this recruitment team etc have literally walked in the door when the season finished. Any targets or negotiations we had under Thelwell and his team have probably been scrapped and we’re starting again.

Think that a number of our incomings are going to be loans mate. Generally those players only become available after their parent clubs have done their business. Those deals generally occur later in the window. Don't think that there is too much to panic about yet , although it would be nice for some moves to be imminent.
