Summer Transfer Window 2025 Thread

Everton 2.0

:coffee:

Imagine if DCL and Doucoure had also accepted the offered contracts.

These players just aren’t good enough and have shown it under countless managers.

Coleman should have been moved upstairs or into coaching. The rest should have been punted out the door and all effort and money put towards players who can actually handle a football properly to improve the squad.

As things stand we’ve put the begging bowl out to the current squad to see if they’ll stay and we have a link to one striker and Jack Harrison.

They really need to sort it out. Pre-season starts next week and there’s not even a back up keeper on the books, how hard can it be!

One of our major issues is goals and end product, players like him are not the solution. A sad state of affairs if he comes back.

People will justify it though, even if it’s in the hope they can annoy supposed fellow fans .
If this summer has taught us anything it is that some Evertonians will tie themselves up in knots to justify literally any decision made by the club.

My response may well be one for the awful takes thread but I hope the contract offers reflect the fact we were/are looking to add a few quality players for decent fees in key areas and trying to hold on to others as squad fillers.

I’d like to hope so too, and a positive version of events may well turn out that way. I just can’t get away from the thought that you shouldn’t offer contracts or any value to players you don’t want to keep.

The fact that Everton had months of the season to look at players, then the whole of June and said to themselves ‘yeah I think we want to retain the services of Young, Doucoure, Calvert Lewin, Keane, Coleman, Gueye’ is genuinely frightening. Thank god three of them couldn’t live with the pay decrease. If we throw more money at Harrison too then questions really need to be asked.

It was supposed to be this great opportunity to reset the squad, not just keep everyone around and buy a couple of new additions.

Don't forget about Young. I'm not sure we'll be having the change in this squad that everyone was hoping for.

Players are either good enough or they’re not, it shouldn’t be ‘well they can stay if they’re only on x amount per week’. I’m glad some of these players turned down contract offers for wage reasons but I’d rather Everton just hadn’t offered them in the first place. It worries me that at any wage the club wanted to keep all these players.

Purchases will be at a minimum and mostly in the last week of the window to keep down wages.

Moyes is a master of managing expectation. For all the talk of the necessity for a lot of new faces this will be a typical Everton window. There'll be one promoted from within the club (Armstrong), re-signed players, and maybe three in.
