2024/25 Idrissa Gueye

….Doucoure, Young and DCL look like they left despite being offered deals, suggesting this new regime have strict criteria regarding contract extensions.
If we do not get the right players - again its going to be another long season - with money at a premium Gana was the only oldie I would have kept - Coleman only a coaching job encouraging for him to do his badges etc - we need cover on both full backs - two wingers & a CF & another midfielder IMO all at sell on criteria not oldies -

….you have an obsession with age, Branthwaite is 23, O’Brien 24, Garner 24, Alcaraz 22, Ndiaye 25, Beto 27, McNeil 25, all regular starters, all contracted for next season. If we bring Barry in, he’s 22.

We need good footballers.

The other lot won the title with one of the higher average squad ages in the league.

30 somethings have a lot to offer these days and aren't quite the broken down, clapped out, take ol yeller out the back cast offs they once were.

I think the likes of Gana, Keane and Coleman are essential in a squad with a lot of younger players and even more so when it comes to the rebuild thats ahead of the current group.

Eggs we were without doubt the slowest prem team last season - if the bottom 3 had not have been so awful we would have been lower down yet again - DM settled the sinking ship - where is our youth policy ? we must have a fitter faster defender than Keen ..... he is only a 4th choice CB on high wages - not a necessity IMO

….Branthwaite is rapid, we’ve conceded very few goals in the last two seasons. Young players are not necesarilly fast, some human beings are faster than others, it’s not always compatible with age. Doucoure wasn’t a slouch, he had powers of recovery, Gueye is busy, Young wasn’t slow.

You really need to start watching youth games when broadcast and reading the appropriate thread. I’m a believer that it’s increasingly difficult finding talent, youngsters have so many other things to do these days but it would be good if we could find a gem or two. The strategy of bringing youngsters in has worked well (Branthwaite, Stones, DCL etc) more than Academy findings (Gordon).

Recruitment rather than coaching would be more the issue in my view, maybe finding more from abroad could be the way forward but there’s no easy solution to this. You can’t play young players if they are good enough, believe me if Colin Harvey was 17 again, he’d be in and around this side just like he was in 1964.

Correct.
We need a balance of youth and experience. We need to bring in players with ability most of all but we have lost lots of experience and know how regarding playing in the Premiership and that also has to be replaced.

In addition to your list of younger players you can add Mykolenko as well as squad players Patterson and Iroegunam

My obsession is that we don't integrate them just sell them out on loan or sell them Robinson a prime example at Fulham better than the left back we payed millions for IMO ....
