2024/25 Jarrad Branthwaite

This

He is an actual asset we can build around for a decade. CBs can play longer in their prime as well.

He's a must keep for us

…I think it’s more about whether he wants to leave, if he does then it’s almost inevitable. I get the view that contracts aren’t worth the paper they’re written on but I’d see it as a good sign if he signs a new deal because a transfer wouldn’t be imminent.

Exactly this. If he wants to go, he’ll go. If he wants to stay, he’ll stay (since we no longer need to sell). So we can only wait and hope he fancies another year.

Agree. A contract for the likes of Branthwaite gives us a sense of power as of strengthening our bargaining power. Means more wages we have to pay but means more income from the transfer. This only applies if the player keeps consistency otherwise we could be stuck in similar past scenarios of overpayed players. It is a juggling game and has to be dealt with a degree of nous. Branthwaite is currently on around 35k so jumping up to 150k or so carries a risk. Probably a good risk given his previous 2 seasons but only the experts can answer that

Unfortunately they're still a massive club and have a much greater pull than Everton, and that's not even mentioning the fact that they'd be able to treble his salary.

People call Everton a sleeping giant, but we're not... we're more like a former champion on life support for three decades. United is a true sleeping giant and they will likely throw immense money at their problems this summer. Hopefully none of that is intended to purchase Branthwaite.

….no doubt about the size of the club but surely last nights result leaves United in a greater mess than they already were. An expensively purchased squad of players on extraordinary contracts who are nowhere good enough will be impossible to shift.

I can’t see them throwing more money at it. Major issues for them just to get stability.

100%, they do not have money to throw around. PSR means they can’t afford anyone like Jarrod without selling first. I mean, who’s going to want any of their awful squad.

It's great, isn't it? Made up they lost last night. 😆 They'll be offering agents double commission to offload their ridiculously expensively-assembled squad of awful players. Onana, Maguire, Casemiro, Mount, Rashford, Zirkzee, Hojland, De Ligt, Shaw - LOL!

Jeez, we thought we made a mess of it with Moshiri's millions - that's nothing compared to the state of United now!
