I mean that’s not it though is it? For our 1st team: (first 2 years he only started in about half of his appearances)

17/18 - 8 goals (20 years old) (44 apps)
18/19 - 8 goals (38 apps)
19/20 - 15 goals (41apps)
20/21 - 21 goals (39 apps)
21/22 - 5 goals (18 apps)
22/23 - 2 goals (18 apps)
23/24 - 8 goals (36 apps)
24/25- 3 goals (23 apps)

He showed good improvement in his early years and considering he cost £1.5m, getting 8 a season at 20/21 years old, is really good. Considering people want to shell out fees of like £30/40m on players like Ferguson or previously Broja, then he did well.

He then improved to a good level and it wasn’t just 3 months, as people seem to conveniently forget he also got 15 goals the season before that.

He then had two poor seasons where he struggled to get himself properly fit. But then even last season, once he got himself fit, he got 8 goals in a team that was playing backs to the wall football.

People call him a sick note but he made 36 apps last season and will probably get 26 this season. Then there’s an opportunity for a full pre season with a more attack minded manager with what we expect to be better competition for the striker role and more pace into the team.

To me, it’s fairly clear why Moyes would want to keep him if he reduces his wages. As if he isn’t first choice, more likely to stay fit and would suit end of games when we are pushing forward and getting balls into the box.
That's a lot of words to say he's got 13 goals (without penalties) in 4 seasons. Just over 3 a season, I want our defensive players getting those stats, not our number 9. We've got to aim higher. A striker scoring 3.25 non penalty goals a season is a disgrace.

Forget goals.

This is what I value my strikers on.

Balls retained,

Headers won,

Completed passes.

Who wants goals from a striker???
I want someone to lead the line AND score goals amigo - the 2 shouldn't be mutually exclusive

Both of his double digit seasons he scored the overwhelming majority of the goals in a 3 month purple patch.

19/20 Scored 10 of his 13 league goals in the three months between December and March 1st.

20/21 Scores 11 of his 16 league goals in the three months between September and December.

People call him a sick note because he's missed over 80 matches in 4 seasons due to injuries.

Sicknote waiting to happen.
If the contract is still 'on the table' - take it off.
He ran his contract down for reasons best known to himself and his agent

Thanks for your efforts, don't be afraid to pop in one day when you're passing
My sentiments entirely.
Auf wiedersehen.

I always thought we did much better when he was available than not.

Just looked at his stats (nerd alert)

236 appearances
82 wins
57 draws
97 losses

1.28 points per game = 49 points per season, which would have us finishing in the bottom half.
And what’s that in comparison to without him?

With Pickford we average 1.21 points per game.

It’s a really weird way to judge a player based on those particular stats.

It probably is. I suppose ultimately it just shows how crap we’ve been for the last 9 years.

I wonder what trying to run meaningful training is like the last few seasons at Everton, with the amount of dross just draining quality, funds and energy from the squad. e.g. Tosun, Dele etc and I fear DCL becomes that now.

I do understand and agree with fans on here who back him and say 'he can still do a job etc'. That is true, but what is that job (he doesn't really hit the box, and I don't wanna watch a team relying on a loan figure to 'hold up the ball', we've tried that!)

Also what do the wages and his space cost in terms of a Delap or other coming into the team with the energy and work rate of Iliman, Beto etc.

He's not a bad lad, but not a great footballer, his stats are kinda awful now.

Just walk away Everton. Be sensible.
Frankly it's this. If he doesn't want to sign a new deal with us then wish him well wherever he goes and be done. No way should we be bending over backwards to get a low scoring injury prone striker to stay.

And in general I like him when he is playing well but he isn't the player that can get us going up the table and winning stuff so I'd rather roll the dice on a player that could offer that.

It would appear no-one else wants to buy him so he’s not a desirable playing asset.

If you were manager of Everton and then got a job at another PL club(not relegation threatened) would you buy him and take him with you knowing his injury record and scoring stats?

In a business sense, who would employ someone again who is only available for work 50% of the time.

We need to move on from making cases for sub-standard players and players and start to try and live up to our motto again.

Depending on what happens with contracts for Doucoure and Gueye, if he re-signs it’s very likely he’ll be our 2nd highest earner after Pickford.

Does he deserve that????
