On the break it's got to be Beto , dcl is probably better as an overall player with his hold up play and heading ability but someone to run with the ball and ping it past the goalkeeper, Beto is far superior
Dom hasn't really proven to me that he is a better player. The only manager we got results with him under is Carlo with Jamez and Luca Digne. His holdup play to me is hit or miss as well. He got bullied quite a bit by center halves and most of his runs are down the channels and then he runs into a brick wall. Beto to me is braver and actually willing to take chances and get in on goal. I think it is mental with Dom. He should be better.

Is he our best striker though? Given a shot on goal, would you prefer it to fall to DCL over Beto?
He is not. Numbers don’t tell the full story but they tell a story…Dom still has 300 more minutes played than Beto and Beto had 7 goals to Doms 3. Dom has 13 big chances missed, Beto has 9…Beto is far more likely to slot a chance compared to Dom when it presents. Give me Beto if we’re forced to chose between them.

Do you have any stats on ball retention, headers won and completed passes?

EDIT - Neither are good enough.

If he was a free agent from another club, with his injury history, play style, and lack of productivity/finishing ability for a striker, would we even be thinking of signing him on a big wage?

Hint: The answer is no.

It's a really good way of looking at it.

Apart from this latest injury, Dyche pretty much had him fit for around 18 months and his scoring record was still abysmal. If we were a fan of a club looking at him, you wouldn't be happy with your club paying him 50k+ a week would you?

100% correct.

Alternatively, would you pay a £30M transfer fee for him if he was under contract and over £100K per week?

We need a reset and the club need to make some hard decisions.

Depends on the wage. If we were signing him as a free agent on around 70k a week, whilst also spending 30m on a first choice striker, then I’d say it could be allright.

However that is also reliant on us getting a pacy right winger that likes hitting the byline and cutting it back.

And as we are looking for two of those things, ie the 1st choice striker and a pacy RW, I can certainly see the sense in keeping him if he drops his wages.

I wouldn't be rushing to pay the lad 70k per week, that's still a huge wage. He just doesn't have the goal return in him to justify a big wage. That's more than likely why he wants to leave, if he thinks he is still worth top money.

Could maybe boost the wage with some kind of goal bonus incentive, but then if he'd be behind a new first choice striker then he wouldn't get the minutes on the pitch. If nothing else, it would mean he'd have to play much more aggressively and shoot more when he was on the pitch, but I doubt he'd want to settle for an incentive based wage.

I’m probably in the minority where I’d like to see him re-sign.

I’d sell Beto to generate funds. I know the argument that Beto is a better finisher but I don’t think he offers enough and he’s one of the few players we can sell for a decent fee.

Personally I think Dom is slowly coming to the conclusion that this will be the response from Newcastle/West Ham/ManU and all the other clubs his agent has been trying to do a deal with for the last year, and failing.

In hindsight it is easy to say we should have taken the millions Newcastle were offering last Summer.

If he has changed his mind and wants to stay, it’s only because if a lack of a better offer elsewhere.

His agent has ruined his career.
