Your own sentimental memories of Goodison.

Not Goodison, but just watched the highlights of the 1977 fa cup semi final v that lot which I went to at Main Road.

Absolutely robbed by Clive Thomas, in no world was Hamilton offside,

The Carsley Derby was a top day.

Also Radzinski last 5 minutes v Southampton.

The best performance without scoring a goal had to be a young Rooney in a 0-0 draw v Bolton. He was unplayable that day and gave class defenders Hierro and Campo a torrid time.

Do all the memories have to be rose tinted?
The Derby Barnes banana throwing disgrace.
Spurs dart practice.
The "extras" after both Millwall cup games decades apart.

First match in 1975 ( I think ) when we beat Derby County 2-0 . Can’t remember who scored . Spent most of the time looking around the stadium and seeing how big it was . Watching us beat Man Utd 5-0 and Sunderland 4-1. Being there the day we clinched the title in 85 . Taking my eldest son to his first match , the 2-1 win over Charlton with that last minute winner by James McFadden . My lad being amazed at the explosion of noise , a fat bloke hugging me and another fella falling over two rows of seats . His second match was the Sunderland 7-1. My youngest lads only match was a 4-0 win against Fulham . Including Tim Cahill’s last goal . Taking my grandson to the 4-2 Leicester match . Entered the ground quite early with him running straight up the steps to where the seats were . Steward .. “ His first match , hey “😄. Tom Davies scoring after 30 seconds , with the grandson missing it due to looking the other way at the Gwladys St crowd . Bloody idiot . We were sat where the Gwladys curves into the Bullens in the corner .

A few more matches I could mention . Beating Arsenal 6-0 . Getting beat by Arsenal 1-6 . Wins ,draws and defeats .

Just being with my dad, all those years we went to the match together, so all the sentimentality about Goodison is entirely interwoven with sentimentality about my dad to be honest.
Hoping to be taking my old fella health permitting soon to be 87 to his last one at Goodison today,he’s been going himself since 1948,couldn’t agree more about the sentimentality side of things mate👍💙

The Barnes shenanigans at Goodison were nothing compared to the league cup tie at their gaff believe me,a real stain on our club that night😞

Going with my lad .
The queen mother had just died, the minutes silence, someone behind us said hope the queens next...we stills speak about that.
Remember hearing the start of z cars with him next to me,tears running down my face.
The smells tho.
Cheap ciggies and wrigglies.
The horse shabite outside the ground.
The non meat hot dogs /hamburgers.
And a personal note,I'm not going to bore yous, that place helped me through tough times when I was younger..

Same here mate. Last game is going to be sad as well as good. Deffo be thinking of my lovely pops up there and thanking him for first taking me to Goodison and making me a blue.

The game against Fiorentina.

I was doing some work in Manchester so got the train across. Train was packed so had to stand in the conductors bit at the back of the train. Walked up to Goodison, just felt the tension building up the closer I got. The lights as I got closer, just the buzz. It felt like something. Sat up in the upper Glad.

Just a tense first half after we scored, it felt like something special was coming. The second half was just electric. Every time we had the ball it felt like it was our time to score. I know there was the quote from the 80s about just let the fans pull the ball into the net. But it felt like it that night. There was just something special that no other game has come close to.

Went to pens. When it went up to the other end you could see the writing on the wall. Jags missed. It wasn’t upset, it was deflation.

For me, it was the high water mark in recent years. Like if we’d had won that, we’d have won the Europa that year. Would things have been different? Hard to say.

It sounds mad that even though I’d been there against Villareal and other bigger nights, that was the pinnacle. For me no game has ever felt the same, almost like I’d seen the script before.
