That he keeps being better than whoever we try to replace him with. Chermiti, Broja, Maupay, Beto, Rondon. All been signed post Richarlison, none of them are as good as Calvert Lewin. Thankfully it's now came out Dan Purdy is leaving but I would've had no faith in him picking a better striker than Dom, so id want him for when it goes pear shaped.

We keep signing cheap garbage. Decent strikers cost money, we’ll have to pay it.

Ah, so the logic is when it goes pear-shaped Dominic Cardboard-Cutout will be our hard-working, hold-the-ball-up, get-us-up-the-field saviour?
And the fact that he is mediocre at best and couldn't finish a 1 on 1 even if it was a 1 on 0 doesn't come into your reckoning?
Interesting logic that Francis.

If he can stand up to the rigors of EPL, myself trust Moyes and team to sign him up. Not going to be easy regardless of shiny new stadia signing the likes of Delap... So may only be good option. Pretty sure DCL would also have few goals had he been able to play since Moyes came in.

Give Beto Ancelotti as manager and Gylfi, Richardson and James behind him and he scores 30.

Fact.

I don’t really understand your point?

Of course the tactics and supporting players play a big part in whether a striker scores goals or not

That’s the whole point of having 11 players in your starting lineup, they’re supposed to help one another as a collective

My point is that Beto would have scored more than Dom in that Ancelotti team.

And @Goat knows this

Beto just doesn’t have Dom’s hold up play and that was essential in that Carlo team because he could hold it, lay it off and then receive it back to score

Beto and Broja just aren’t capable of that

Beto might be a better finisher but Dom is the more complete footballer
He's not Maradona, he can effectively shield the ball and lay it off. He's a more complete footballer than Beto certainly but he's not exactly of a great standard as a footballer.

I think his hold up is massively overvalued and overrated.

Does he set up goals for anyone else? No.

Does he often run himself down blind alleys while "holding up the ball" Yes.

The good healthy version of DCL is worth having

Does that version exist anymore?
Its not just that though

Its the good, healthy, fit, inform version of him you might get for 4-5 games a season if were lucky.

He is unreliable in every aspect.

"On his day"
"When match fit"
"When on form"
"When he gets the service"
"Under a different manager"

Constant 'whens' or 'ifs' with him, its tiresome listening to the excuses for him.
