You need to factor in that all this year we have.

1. Changed Manager
2. Changed formation
3. Changed both fullbacks
4. Changed both CBs
5. Bought a whole new Midfield
6. Lost our talisman Star Striker to injury
7. Sold Richarlison

We look a lot more solid at the back, we dont lose every midfield battle, it will take time for them to work out the attacking side, but its defo a work in progress.

6 out of 7 is good like.

Still don’t feel he gets anywhere near the credit honestly. Got us safe last season where basically anyone would’ve told you we were down in January and now he’s got us level on points with the almighty Klopp who are the best team of all time with the best manager of all time, apparently. Second best defensive record in the league too, all while having 3 starting CBs injured, first choice goalkeeper injured for a spell and has yet to be able to play his first choice striker this season either.

Seems everyone but the media can see a massive improvement in us, perhaps it’s a case of them not wanting to see it rather than not being able to though. Won’t get carried away by any means but think we can hopefully aim for Top 10 this season and build on it again next year with some stability. I have no doubts that if things go our way this season that we could challenge for a European spot but top half should be the aim for now at least, best not to run before we can walk.

When Godfrey and Holgate got injured, I remarked that neither would be missed and true progress would mean neither would get back in when finally available again. It's still early days, obviously, but I really think we are a far more solid unit these days without the calamity types that have holed us under the bow for years.

Didn't think the defending was overly impressive today and Southampton should have salvaged a draw from that. On the flipside better decisions or passes around their box during the first half would have put the win beyond doubt as they were there for the taking and the speed we were moving the ball from back to front was very good to see.

We're still a slim margins side when going up against the middling sides in the PL and today reinforced that we're likely gonna take a sound beating or two when those little rubs of the green go against us. The reaction to that will be interesting both from the players and the fans.

But overall it's very positive. It's a team that can get itself in position to benefit from those little bits of luck and that in and of itself is massive progress.
